Abandoned war wagon replaced by bridge icon?

Post by Ray552 »

Playing an SP game - the crew of an undeployed war wagon was routed and abandoned the wagon. However, the empty war wagon was replaced by a bridge:

This also happened in an MP game, and my opponent was surprised by it.

If it makes any difference, I had recently reinstalled the game after some problems starting it, and also reinstalled the FOG2 Ancients terrain mod (makes the Medieval terrain look like Ancients).

However, I've been playing for over a year with the mod without any problem.

Bridge models appear when the game is calling for a terrain object model that does not exist in your game folder.

So when you installed the Ancients terrain objects in your Medieval build you must have deleted the Data/objects/Miscellaneous sub folder. This contains the deployed war wagon models. Obviously, the Ancients terrain object folder does not contain this sub folder.

You will have to uninstall FoG2M, reinstall, and then add the Ancients terrain in such a way that you don't delete any essential Medieval folders or files.

Paul's answer sounds correct.

Of course you should not really be playing MP with a modded main game build, because there is a high chance of the games going out of synch and messing up the replay (which effectively alters the events of the previous turn, and messes up the game position at the start of the next turn).

It is possible/probable that pure terrain texture/object mods might not do this, but changes to scripts will certainly do so, and also changes to squads files or number of models displayed.

Gents,

Thanks, the missing Data/Objects/Miscellaneous sub folder was the problem - I copied the Miscellaneous sub folder from my Objects backup into the active Objects folder.

Now the empty wagons appear when the crew bails out or dismounts.

BTW, the Ancients terrain mod is this one that Mord, Paul, Adebar and mazex developed: "FoG II Terrain For Medieval Plus Mod PATCH UPDATE 12/18/21"

I've not had any problems with it in SP or MP games until after I reinstalled, should I reconsider using it?

On general principles you should not use a modded main build for MP. But if, as you say, the terrain (display) mod really has caused no issues in MP for a year, it is probably safe, as it does not used modded scripts or squads file.
