the savegame for sure, and if possible, also the log file, but you need to load the game, make it crash, and then save the log file. Both of them you need to put in a winrar or winzip file and then upload as attachment (can go to advanced posting > attachments, it's next to options below the submit button > add files ). Or you can use an external file hosting website.

usually you can find the savegames and log files in your my games folder, like this:
Documents\My Games\Commander The Great War\Save

@Ydron: look for the file called "ctgw.log"

You can find it in
Documents\My Games\Commander The Great War

You must make a copy of it right after the game has crashed, do not start the game again before you make a copy of "ctgw.log"

Open the ctgw.log in any text editor and scroll to the end where you can find the error message.

Copy the last few lines with the error message and post them in your next reply.

Of course you can also, like Umeu said, put the whole ctgw.log in a .zip or .rar archive and upload it to the forum.

P.S. you are both using the new V17, right?

yeah, we're both using it. Vs Munt as well. Both games are currently on hold due to crashes.

Btw: there is no savegame in multiplayer, the only way in multiplayer to track bugs is the ctgw.log

While we're waiting some more info would be nice:

So both matches crash on turn 7?
Who hosted the matches?
On the turn of which alliance does the crash happen?
Which scenatios were played (Schlieffen, Aufmarsch Ost etc.)
Any "new" tactics used?
Could the last player who managed to complete his turn please try to remember what he did or where he moved his units?

yeah, I forgot about that when I replied to Ydron. my bad :)

I don't remember what turn it was vs Ydron, I thought it was not actually turn 7 but turn 5. It was turn 5 as well in my game. But I think both games crash for same reason. I read the crash report of my game, and the issue is related to the BEF event. Munt sent it in the game against me, and I sent it in my game vs Ydron as well.

I hosted both matches

I don't remember which scenario Ydron chose, but I think it was just Moltke (historical) and I also went Moltke historical (ake no scenario in both)

don't remember the answer to the last 2 questions, but pretty sure it's the BEF event.

Bad news for all singleplayers: the bug that has already appeared a few months ago in V16 that made me cancel that version has re-appeared in V17 in one of the savegames ("test70") that Umeu has uploaded.

This means that singleplayer mode is now dead because I do not know how to fix that bug because it is tied to the AI files which I can't change.

I'm really sad & angry about this because this bug destroys all the work I've put into this mod for a second time. :evil:

Noticed a few things in my MP game vs ydron @robotron

I received message for Artillery research on t3, but it's not visible in the lab. However, I do have 2 focus points, so it should be available for me. https://img.onl/FFVbfJ

Replay shows something else than the state of the board when replay is finished (aka, units damaged more or less, or even destroyed, when replay shows another outcome)

I unlocked Joffre according to the requirements in the production tab, but I didn't get him. Does he only unlock next turn because it's MP? https://img.onl/aHNOmG

btw posted this before I read your other post. Can understand you're not keen on working on anything Potzblitz rn :shock:

That's so strange. So v15 doesn't have this bug? Because I don't think I've ever seen v16 (probably because of this reason :/) But if people want to play SP, then they can still just play v15.2. It must be really disappointing to find this out, but don't lose heart. The mod is already in a great state at 15.2, and if I was told that's the end version of it, I'd be more than happy to play that for a long time. We appreciate your effort, even if that silly AI guy doesn't :mrgreen:

Does that bug always occur in the same turn or under the same circumstances, or is just (completely) random?

btw, could the bug potentially be connected to the Bulgarian Trenchline event? I noticed that my game went unstable right around the time that this event started bugging. Even if not, I think I have figured out why this event works at first, but then causes crashes if you don't pick it early on. The event unlocks Zhekov, as long as Zhekov is not in play, the event works. But if Zhekov is unlocked before the event is played, choosing Bulgarian Trenchline causes CTD.

hmm I guess they're not related. Game just crashes at turn 30 now it seems.

Bulgarian Trenchline problem is caused by applying entrenchment to hexes during a turn which sometimes works (Gallieni) and sometimes not. I can play the event with the exact same script without problems in V17.1 but it will always crash in V17.0 and I've no clue why,

The game-breaking AI bug is caused by the game's ctgw.exe suddenly being unable to process the array containing the hexes the unit in question is "ordered" to take by the AI. It is not random but will reliably crash the game without proper error message. I have encountered this bug twice in V15 in 1915 after winter and then again in V17 in 1916 in your autosave without any no clue how to fix it.
I'm honestly sick & tired of this game's idiosyncrasies and need a break. If you encounter crashes in your game I'll see what I can do but don't plan to continue to work on this project right now.

ok, that's understandable. Don't worry about it, I was mostly playing the SP to test it for you haha. And there aren't that many MP games around. Too bad the hardcoded part is in such a state, would've been great to see you finish it.

It has been awhile since my last post. I haven't able to sit down and play anything for over a year now I believe.

I started playing V17 a couple of days ago and was writing a post along with a few suggestions as my current game went along. Then I had the game breaking bug happen on T30 according to the log. I'm sorry that you've put such a massive effort into the game just have bugs happen that are impossible to fix. I was finding V17 to be my favorite with the AI a lot more aggressive. Without all the work you did on the mod I wouldn't have kept coming back to this game.

I was able to get V15.2 downloaded during my absence I assume that is the version to play a SP game with?

Umeu, I could play some MP games with you if you would like. I just can't guarantee I'd be able to play everyday.

sounds good. I don't mind if you can't play daily, at least if you try to finish it, or message me when you've lost interest in the game so I won't wait for you to make a move :) I have some hosted.

I agree, v17 was feeling like the best version. I think there are a couple of things I listed that affect MP still. Maybe someone with a bid of modding experience can mod them quickly so at least v17 is good for MP. With Robotron's permission ofc.

I think neither of us should play the events related to the Irish rebellion, at least in SP, playing Irish Rebellion event as CP caused Britain to surrender.
