Supply
How is supply calculated? Polish units have max 3 supply. Even if in capital? Italian units have 4 supply.
Thanks in advance

Units can only get full supply if they're connected and within 50 (I think) hexes of one of the major capitals (Rome, Berlin, London, Paris, Moscow, Perm, Washington). The Polish don't get full supply because Warsaw is a minor capital, not a major one. Here is a brief rundown of supply sources and what amount they give.
Major capitals = full supply
Minor capitals = half supply
Ships on coast = low supply
None of the above = no supply
Hope this helped

Ahh. That explains it. The manual doesn't mention major/minor capitals just capitols / cities when describing supply.
Thanxs
Edit: Why then when starting a new game as axis (no fow) when I place the cursor over a unit in moscow it only has 3 Supply, same with washington. Is this due to war efficiency?
p.s Rome has 4? Yet Milan has 5. How come?

The reason you see what you see is because Italy and Russia are neutral at the start of the game. Only ACTIVE major power primary capitals act as a supply level 5 source. So supply in Italy is counted against the distancc to Berlin until Italy becomes active. Then units will get the highest supply level from either Berlin or Rome.
Moscow will act as a level 5 supply source when Russia activates. Perm will be treated as a normal city supply wise until Moscow is captured. This is because Perm is only the secondary capital and Moscow the primary.

When I encircle an enemy unit, it's cut off from the capital and loses supply, but if the encirclement includes one of their non-capital cities (say Brest-Litovsk), the unit still stays supplied. Same thing happens when I encircle an enemy unit but it's adjacent to the coast -- without a supporting surface ship -- and it stays supplied. Why's this? (I"m not complaining, I'm just ignorant.

Okay, that makes sense.
What about cutting them off except for a piece of unsupported coastline? If I make a beachhead on enemy territory, I don't get supply unless I've got an adjacent surface ship. If I surround an enemy so that they end up with nothing but a "beachhead" of territory, they get supply without an adjacent surface ship. (Or at least that's how it's seemed to me the few times I've done it)

Unless there's a friendly port adjacent to the beach then the encircled forces should all have supply level 0.Amandil wrote:Okay, that makes sense.
