Counter Magic does not seem to work

I've used Counter Magic many, many times and I don't think I've ever seen it stop a spell once. It's a pretty critical part of the game. However, when its cast against me I have seen it stop my spells. I usually cast it by putting an additional 40 mana into it. It looks like you can put more mana into it now than in the past. In Classic 40 mana was the most you could put in. What is the formula for it now? Why does it never seem to work?

Seriously, what is the deal with Counter Magic? I've used over 50 time and never seen it work for me a single time. I've cast it at a wide variety of levels with up to maximum strength, and it never works. But it works for the AI very frequently.

This really needs to be addressed. I'm casting full strength Counter Magic and it does nothing, yet when the enemy uses it it blocks like 75% of my spells. And on top of that it seems like every wizard has Counter Magic, so this is a real problem. What is going on? How does Counter magic work? Is this is a real bug or have I been the most unlucky player in history? I would say that in 80% of battles if I am attacked I get one cast, then everything is countered. If I go first I have no magic. What's going on?

I have not tried to use counter magic yet, but I have tried "Disenchant Area" and "Dispel Magic".
Disenchant Area didn't perform well the few times I tried it.
I haven't have much luck with "Dispel Magic" either, but I remember the Strategy guide from the Original title recommended not using mana to increase your chance per cast, instead citing that it is more likely to be effective through multiple casts. My game-testing on the Re-release indicates that is still the most effective strategy as well.
I will add, that the computer wizards don't seem to have any better luck with those.

I remember the first game was infuriating when the Opponent wizard would cast "Disenchant Area" and all of those expensive buffs you stacked on each army would get toasted. Also, I notice that even if buffs do get dispelled for battle, they remain on your army after the conclusion, thus no need for expensive "rebuffing" after nasty battles. So that is a win.

Counter Magic ruins games, period, when deployed by the AI. The old wiki said it was OP in the AIs hands, and it still is broken. There is no way to dispel counter magic, and while the AI wizard is "concentrating" on countering your spells, it can still launch it's own spells with no issues.
Please nerf this - I have had a couple 300+ turn games ruined because the AI has CM and have never acquired it. Some suggestions...

- Make the percentage it counters less than 70+%, or have it drop faster than 5% per turn.
- While CM is active, curtail the AIs use of other spells
- Make a counter spell or two, or three, to dispel CM
- Make the spell more easy to find, or have it as a choice for all wizards.

Please, do something with this game ruiner!
