Game Start Design Decision

Hi all,

If this has been discussed please let me know where so i can look through it and feel free to ignore.

I have looked at the videos and they all start with a settlement. I am a bit going in age but when i remember playing MoM (which like Pirates! and Pool of Radaince are among my most favorite games ever) that we started with pioneers and had to quickly choose the best location for us to settle. Has this mechanic been removed in favor of a preplaced settlement? If so any insight into why?

As far as I know, you started with a settlement, a spearman and a swordsman.

Even though it is one of my most favorite games of all times (up there with goldbox games) it has been a long time so i am probably misremembering, thanks.
