Dorian Greek heavy cavalry
I never noticed it before but on the Spartan units page it has the Dorian Greek listed as being able to build the upgraded heavy cavalry barracks for the Theban Cavalry. However i can't build the upgraded barracks in my game so what i am wondering is are the Dorians supposed to have access to theban cavalry or is that a mistake on the unit info page?

Re: Dorian Greek heavy cavalry
Maybe you've got to conquer one theban city with the cavalry buildings upgradedjoseph_kerr wrote:I never noticed it before but on the Spartan units page it has the Dorian Greek listed as being able to build the upgraded heavy cavalry barracks for the Theban Cavalry. There was a similar affair with veterans, I think...some ethnic groups were capable of using them, while not being able to build the needed building. So the game forced you to do some conquest in order to get some heavy infantry barracks (upgraded) to recruit some veterans...interesting game feature, IMHO...if it was a game feature at all
EDIT: I've been reading the web page about it...I guess dorians have access to cavalry, but not to the certain building required to train those thebans...what a great game Spartan was/is, maybe the greatest

Thanks much, after reading your post i went and looked at the spartan charts and it looks like you certainly are right. The Dorians are listed as having access to the theban cavalry on the military production chart but they indeed aren't listed as being able to build the upgraded heavy cavalry barracks on the research chart. I only have Gates of Troy but i'd imagine it's the same.
It makes sense, otherwise it leaves the Aeolians absolutely no advantage at all and they're already at a disadvantage enough not being able to build either of the elite infantry barracks.

This is an old thread, but I just stumbled upon this myself.
Dorians are listed as being able to recruit Theban cavalry, and squads.txt confirms this.
Spartans are not supposed to recruit them, and again squads.txt confirms this.
But looking at buildings.txt the Dorians are unable to construct the upgraded heavy cavalry barracks, even though they are clearly meant to.
I didn't know what the difference between "Greek" and "GreekCavalry" was in the nations list, so I simply added them both. In my current campaign I have already done away with the Spartans, so them training cavalry is not an issue.
Edit: I just remembered that "Spartan" is its own cultural identifier, so I can add "MadeBy Greek" and "MadeBy GreekCavalry (whoever that is)" all I want, and it will affect the Spartans not a jot.
