couple of entrenchment questions
concerning heroes. curious what the entrenchment bonus 2x means for Smart Entrenchment? what r the best combination Heroes(4} to make a unit a rock. thinking of using Paratroopers to capture then defend airfields, strategic crossings, etc., until my Panzers can get reach them.
Re: couple of entrenchment questions
If i make use of "tough" paratroopers, and i got the heros, i give them prudent and resilent.
nice additions for a 3rd hero are:
readiness or first strike
no surrender
unyielding
tenacious defender
evasive
but there are a lot of combinations that would make paras nearly unkillable like:
consolidator, prudent and unyielding
it will depens on where you want them to hold position. defending an airfield is tough, because they are open tiles. Even consolidator + prudent + resilent + no surrender paras will have some unhappy times in 43 against big russian tanks in open tiles.
i miss a "no supply" hero for infatry

Re: couple of entrenchment questions
what about the Smart Entrenchment question I asked? there is a No Supply but because you lose men, I think there r better other heroes to both prevent losing them and inflicting damage on the attackers. If your entrenchment and fighting troop numbers r quickly diminishing, what is good is full supply without the troop numbers? you'll just surrender/wiped out with fully loaded guns.

The strength of no supply is as much in the fact that you don't take suppression from being surrounded as it is in getting ammo each round. What do you meant by "smart entrenchment"? Are you talking about the engineer trait? If so, it just means that adjacent units entrench fasterscorehouse wrote: ↑Wed Oct 05, 2022 9:54 pm what about the Smart Entrenchment question I asked? there is a No Supply but because you lose men, I think there r better other heroes to both prevent losing them and inflicting damage on the attackers. Outside of MP games, I've never found too much advantage in trying to use paras to snipe airbases. In single player, they are almost always defended, and your paras are extremely vulnerable both in the air, the first turn when you can't attack, and just generally in open terrain

Re: couple of entrenchment questions
I never had a "no supply hero" in several runs. Is this even possible? I thought thats a trait just for some specific AI units like the de gaulle tank.
I also miss some sneaky paratrooper actions. In the good old panzer general I always had at least one unit and did some crazy stuff. In PC2 it can just fail. The maps are too small, the enemy will always notice what you are doing and wipe out your paras easily. In most cases your units will also be cut off and cant do anything after 1-2 turns.

I think you are right. in over 20 playthroughs til 41 i never got one. So im prety sure, only the AI recieve those heros. But maybe im unlucky, i havent seen a "phased movement" hero for a long time now, aswell.DefiantXYX wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 6:15 am I never had a "no supply hero" in several runs. Yes, paras are awkward to use. The combination "first strike, prudent and unyielding works for paras (for me), but only if there is a supply line, and only if they are not in open tiles. And of yourse if you got enough heros to field at least 3 units of them.DefiantXYX wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 6:15 am I also miss some sneaky paratrooper actions. maybe, if i get the heros in my new playthrough i will try out"camouflage, prudent and first strike" on 1 para unit. They might be an evil surprise in city tiles and tanks trying to take it back
but yes i think a special infantry or paratrooper only hero with:
no supply and another useful trait might help to make at least 1 para unit more viable and useable. If i use paras in playthroughs i literally use every training mission from 41 to 43 to train new units because of the high losses. (maybe im simply to unskilled to use them properly, but i doubt that.
