Re: Oxford Sunday FOGR events 2022
All,
currently we have 5 for our 25mm day on 11th September. Any more? Please let me know.
If we are to be 5 then I propose an event as a round robin of 5 rounds as follows.
1st round 0900 to 1030: 1vs2, 3vs4, 5 bye
2nd round 1045 to 1215: 1vs3, 2vs5, 4 bye
3rd round 1230 to 1400: 1vs5, 2vs4, 3 bye
4th round 1415 to 1545: 1vs4, 3vs5, 2 bye
5th round 1600 to 1730: 2vs3, 4vs5, 1 bye
Games are short but we are all experienced players so it should not be a problem I think. But I do suggest here that we reduce points to 600. We could also think of how to encourage aggressive play, perhaps graded bonuses for any win not just for totally destroying the opponent? As usual I think we should give 12.5 points for the bye so there is a slight benefit to sitting out.
Any views or other suggestions?

If everyone is getting a bye why do you need to give points for it.

Hmmm yes, that did not occur to me ! OK the points for a bye is irrelevant. Other ways of encouraging aggressive play? Or perhaps we should use chess clocks apps.

And now we are 4 for 11th Sept in Oxford. Anyone else? We have a couple of 25mm armies we can lend if that would help.

Tom,
I would refer stay with 650 points.
You could reduce the size of the table to force players to fight earlier.

Thanks Bob but if nobody else comes forward we are 4 strong and can play 3 standard games as a round robin.

Suggest if we do end up with 5 players we keep it simple and use 650 points on a 6x4 table. We can then draw playing numbers on arrival and play 4 games each according to my schedule in post of 19 August. I guess we can leave it to everyone’s competitive spirit to ensure no playing slow.

Tom,
Remind me who the 4 players are?
When do you need our lists?

A reminder for the 25mm competition next Sunday - it will be on a 6x4 table and all deployment rules are standard.
Anyone else wanting to join in please let me know in the next couple of days.

Re: Oxford Sunday FOGR events 2022
We had a practice last night for the 25mm games. Question arose about my term "standard". For 25mm I take this to be 15mm terrain sizes, 15mm deployment distances and table edges, 40mm MUs.
Is medium and heavy artillery deploys in the first set of BGs part of "standard"? I am not fussed either way, any views?

Armies being used in 25mm are;
Bob TYW French
Paddy TYW Swede
Dene Later Louis 14 Franch
Tom Early Henry 8 - gulp
So far as I know at present it is just we four so it will be a Round Robin. But I do know of possible 2 more who may still turn up. So, we shall do the draw at the start of the day when we see where we are.

Re: Oxford Sunday FOGR events 2022
Results of our 25mm event on 11 Sept.
I thought of suppressing the following using my powers as organising genius but decided instead to prove how perceptive was my assessment of my chances in my last post. “Gulp” was really inadequate to express what happened but a lot of it was down to extraordinary Ill luck reinforced by ill preparedness to use such a different army. On a good day it could have won at least one of the three battles I am sure.
Anyway results were:-
First Paddy, winning all of his games and scoring 56 points
Second Dene, winning two games and scoring 48 points.
Third Bob, beating me and scoring 33 points
Fourth me, losing all my games and scoring a mere 8 points.
Lastly a reminder that our next event is 18 December. It will be 15mm, 650 points, any army, with the special rule that at least 75% of non general or fortified camp points are to be mounted. The game will be played on a 6x4 table.
Entrants welcome now, max number will be 12.
