Old topic, still confused (missing campaigns for Gold)

Post by greengiant »

So I've done some searching for this topic, and I've only found answers relating to those who first purchased it off Slitherine and then transferred/activated the various campaigns with the keys provided.

For those who purchased the Gold edition directly off Steam, we get this:

So what gives? Do I still need to purchase the campaigns despite having the gold edition? I see no DLC appearing in the usual spot they show. For reference, I've reinstalled three times now as that appears to be the most common answer provided from Slitherine in the threads I've read through.

EDIT: Okay I went ahead and clicked purchase just to see what would happen. I get the message from steam that these campaigns are no longer available on Steam.???? Does that mean my 'Gold' edition is 'Gold' in name only and not actually in content?

Could it be a question of the relevant serial numbers / keys to be in the right txt files and in the right folder?

You probably bought Panzer Corps some years ago, before there was a gold edition.
They renamed Panzer Corps to Panzer Corps Gold, but did not give old customers the DLC content (so you have the gold edition in name only, while new customers get the DLC content included).
There are workarounds (registry editing), but you could also wait for the next steam sale...

And until then, check out the modding community.
It is not easy to get the first mods going, but once you do, the content is much better than original Panzer Corps.

For Afrika, take a look at the great Italian campaign by Uhu and Nikivdd:

Or my own take on the original Afrika Korps DLC, with more unit variety and functionality and so on:

longer, alternative "PG" like Campaign new version 0.34 from 2011.08.02 (another bugfix & now in zip format)

I purchased the 'gold' edition off Steam two months ago. And from what I'm seeing here, this is a case of false advertising. The negative review I've just dropped there and my thoughts on Slitherines integrity as a company do not paint it in a pretty light. Not that one single negative review will make a difference, but if this is how they operate, that makes this game the last thing I ever purchase from them. If they wanted to direct traffic to their websites store instead of Steam, then this is a pretty crappy/dishonest way to go about it.

Oof, that is indeed bad business.
Note, that the content is most likely already installed, they just refuse access from the ingame menu.
Would thus take some registry or other shenanigans to make it available.
I read something about it in this official Gold version FAQ thread:

Thanks for trying to help Locarnus; honestly I'm not keen on jumping through a bunch of hoops. I really wouldn't have minded if they had been honest and removed the 'gold' tag. Slitherine having a page some where on the internet where they try and save face is really no excuse and does not get them a free pass for their blatant dishonesty. Are Steam users who've never even heard of this site supposed to magically know whats going on when they read the lies in the game description they used on Steam? If they can take the time (it must have cost them all but a few 'precious' minutes to write that blurb you linked to) to do that, why the heck have they not bothered altering their Steam advertising blurb? There is really no excuse.

I've gone and added a WARNING tag to all my reviews of my Slitherine games about their dishonest practises and warned consumers; I've also dropped a rather frustrated/snarky comment in their Steam Slitherine group about warning everyone else on my friend contact list about their practises. Honestly, if no-one stands up to complain then nothing will ever change; like I said though not that I'm expecting my reviews/comments to magically make Slitherine grow a bit of integrity, but at the same time it's my money and I will absolutely do what I can to protect consumers from dishonest publishers. Hell, if any of their employees saw this thread they'd probably have a good laugh and pass it around for a good joke - I've come to expect nothing less from bad apples these days.

It's a pity that the games of theirs I really enjoyed have now had their reviews all altered to reflect this warning of mine as it obviously doesn't look good for them, but what else can a 'lowly' consumer do? They obviously don't care with the proof that their dishonesty is still present in the state Panzer Corps Gold is currently being sold in. This is very much in line with The Operational Art of War IV and it's absolutely horrendous release state which they've not touched since. These guys are a far cry from the awesome chaps that run/ran Matrix Games; Slitherine is now, in my eyes, the equivalent of Ubicrap and EA of grognardy war games.

I had bought the Gold Package from Steam last year and was confused by the same issue (especially since the DLC folders were installed on my hard drive).

What I had to do was activate the keys for each DLC in the Steam App/Player. I can not remember where the keys were and I do not want to go online with steam because it will say my Panzer Corps install is corrupted, tell me to reinstall, blah, blah, blah.

You should have everything you paid for (I did after the same issue). The DLCs just need to have each of their individual keys activated in Steam and will then show up in the Panzer Corps main menu.

I would imagine you need to email Steam if you are going to email anyone because they are handling the download/implementation. I am playing on Ubuntu using Steam’s Proton player so Steam is definitely involved with implementing the software (they have installed my game folders in a convoluted custom path but the game works seamlessly).

You have to activate the keys for each DLC. It might be in the store page for Panzer Corps Gold (where you can download the game). I think I remember a section on the right about activating DLCs or Expansion keys. I just needed to click each one and the expansions showed up in the main menu. You should already have the folders for each expansion (SC, AC, etc.) installed in your Panzer Corps folder (which means you have the software but Steam needs to see the keys activated).

It really is not even a Slitherine issue (the problem can only be fixed through Steam).

The DLC Steam keys have disappeared from 'My Page' of the shop. They were there when I bought the Gold package, and I only activated the first DLC, thinking I would activate the others as I would get to play them, but later they were gone from the page.

Well that sounds frustrating. I would definitely email Steam. The keys might be time sensitive (in order to limit software piracy somehow) but you own them and Steam should have no issue reactivating them. I believe you can also copy the expansion folders into your mods folder (under My Games) and play them through the additional content folder (which is actually a method for software piracy if someone had not paid for the expansions).

It is good to hear an additional confirmation about the need/effectiveness of activating the keys for each individual dlc however.....thank you.
