Bridges

Post by bunkerhill »

OH great ones who have done all of this before... troubled with getting a bridge to show correctly... tried to have a road and train span a 'shallow water' hex from the land hex on either side vs crossing a 'river' line that divides a single hex...

On my scenario map the road and rail can be seen under water, it allows rail movement but no road movement across.

I think the masters solved this, but how? My regrets, I have been searching the forum and looking at the various guides, so if I have missed something already covered, just point me please to the source for me to study up on... thanks!

Aye, of course, but not visually appealling to have the river shrink all of a suddden, ah well, it will work

I'm pretty sure that's the only way.

I'm just going to readjust my mapping in the scenario and use river up to the bridgepoint then shift to shallow water, thanks for the words

Visually it is better if a rail/road combo enters/exits a hex on the same sides.
Crossroads and rivers (or vice versa) doesn't look too good together as well.

Just for fun, I created that disaster mentioned above... made a temp N/S road and river and the crossed it twice... bridges are all messed up!

In reality, I just abandoned using shallow water for a river and it works for the purpose needed in the scenario.

And if you use swamp terrain under the bridges it will slow down traffic across the bridge as well.

I don’t know if anyone’s already thought of this idea or if it’s useful to anyone, but I’m talking about shallow water hexes that imitate a wide river in some scenarios. I’ve always felt they were missing some decoration, like destroyed bridges (since you can’t actually build bridges on this type of hex). So, I made something like that. Basically, as I said, it’s just decoration, but it adds some atmosphere.
