Infinite recon movement trick

Post by MaxDoge »

So I noticed over the past few years of playing PzC that sometimes I can refuel my recon units even after moving them, by cancelling the move while there is still some movement left, doesn't work if you attack first.

I couldn't really consistently replicate it until I randomly read somewhere about it. In any case, I tested it a bit in Kampinoska and discovered that cancelling the movement not only gives the option to refuel the unit, but also gives other options like embarking on a train, after which I deselect the unit, select it again and disembark from the train and this action restores all previously used recon movement as if the unit never moved at all, and this can be endlessly repeated which is quite funny, at least until the fuel runs out.

Not sure how useful that actually is, but thought it was cool enough to share it :)

Heh, this reminded me of the old Panzer General 2 where a recon movement hero on a para unit meant you could embark on a plane, go to a location, disembark and attack, all in the very same turn. Which was obviously beyond broken, but fun to use!

You could do something similar in the 1990s classic Battle Isle 3 with the recon units.

In PG2, I discovered as an 8 year old that you could undo town captures and get infinite prestige...

It was very similar to its DOS predecessor Battle Isle 2 - they were great games at the time (I bought both when they came out), although very dated now. Battle Isle 3 had a good community, there was a League for multiplayer and a third-party map and unit editor. This meant there was a good selection of maps. I made quite a few myself. I've got an old Thinkpad and still occasionally play it myself (the GOG versions of both BI2 and BI3 work on Windows 10). Both games have decent campaigns; BI2 also has an add-on disk (DLC!) called Titan's Legacy. The AI isn't up to much but if you can live with that and are happy to accept it's nearly 30 years old it's worth a go. If I had to come up with my 10 favourite PC games of all time it would still be in there, and I've been playing PC games for over 30 years

With the rail transport? If so, would love to see that so please link it

Definitely a bug/glitch and not intended gameplay. Started intentionally using the resupply trick on a recon in my last few scenarios, not that big of a deal really, but I imagine it has a bigger impact in bad weather scenarios where fuel plays a factor.

Woot? :)

I enjoyed using a recon plane in the soviet campaign last year, but why didn't they stick Erwin Rommel in a recon plane for the Afrika Corps campaign?

Or make a short recon deployment phase with him in the plane before normal unit deployment phase, so that he can scout enemy positions beforehand.

Apart from the Battle Isle games bluebyte also made
History Line: 1914-1918, a turn based war game about WW1. It used the same engine as Battle Isle.
Had a lot of atmosphere at the time.

Yes, I played History Line 1914-1918 before the Battle Isle games. It was a great game at the time. I still have it (as part of Battle Isle Platinum, which also includes Battle Isle 1, 2 and 3 and Incubation) and did take a look a couple of years ago, but as you can imagine, it's very dated now.
