Question for the modders: possible to increase zoom speed or zoom steps?

Although I am a new to this wonderful game, I am already having a kaputt middle finger from constantly zooming in and out. In to admire the in my opinion amazing graphics, out to get the overview.

I have already cranked up the zoom speed in the settings. I still have to scroll a lot.
I know that you can zoom in and out with + and - but that isn't much faster.

So I wondered if one can modify the zoom speed in the game files?

I have found the "variables.txt" in steamapps\common\Order of Battle Pacific\Order of Battle - WW2_Data\Content\Data. But here you can only modify the minimal and maximal level of the zoom.

I suspect the screw I want to turn is hidden in the "options.dat" file in Documents\My Games\Order of Battle - WW2\Settings but I have no idea how to open it.


All I want is to increase the zoom speed by at least 50 percent over the default maximum, or actually decrease the amount of zoom steps. At the end of the day, I would only need 2 or 3 zoom levels anyway. One up close, one for the workable overview, on for the entire map.

Any idea how I could tackle this problem?

Yeah, you're right. But the technical side of these forums and the sites of Matrix and Slitherine themselves drive me up walls. How can this whole infrastructure be so early 2000s? It's also always a bit rude to just post something as an answer which OP has already stated that they tried it.
And then you find a solution for the problem only to find that the sale on the websites ended 12 hours earlier than was shown to you in the counter!!! It somehow stuns me how a website and a publisher can frustrate me so much in only 5 days, especially when I approached this whole wargaming thing with so much enthusiasm. I mean, they even have two (2!!!) forums for this game here, and the forums don't even match. How daft can it get.

All that being said, I have found a solution!
There is a program, easy and very lightweight called "Smoothscroll". Don't get confused when you google it, it is probably the first find but says it is only for Mac. It is not.

While enabled, the program overwrites the mouse wheel settings of windows. E.g. you can adjust speed but also the amound of acceleration for your mouse wheel.

Zooming in and out in OOB is smooth like butter now. In fact, the program is so good I might use it for other applications to.

I should add that the program is completely free of charge.
