He was nice to meet Angus, he played miniatures wargame in particular DBM and he also knows Lorenzo and Paolo, my friends members of the Condottieri club in Milano, Italy.
Years ago he played in the English team the International Team Challenge at the Château de Grandson in Switzerland.
ITC is still played, last edition has been held at the beginning of March 2022, Condottieri team won for the fourth time the competition

After a few turns of crazy maneuvering, enough gaps appeared in the Armenian center for some Viking spears to push through and get some flank attacks. Pikes and cataphracts did a lot of damage, but the numbers of heavy spears won out.

While the Pergamene elephants routed before they could get into action against the knights, the mediums and light spear cav managed to outflank on the Breton left. Both mounted and dismounted men-at-arms did a lot of damage, but the flanks pulled through.

The raw and ranged heavy French took a beating. However, the terrain slowed down the heavy German troops long enough for the French to defeat the German right and move to the center.

The Hungarians used the rough terrain and ranged superiority to full effect

tyronec Thracian (Triballi) 350 BC - 46 AD defeats Blagrot Dacian 50 BC - 88 AD. 41-14, 4-0

Two similar armies and the warbands lined up to face each other. The Thracians got a unit of cavalry around one flank which was able to roll up the line and that was enough to make the difference.

Blagrot (Seleucid 320-303 BC) beat anderarcos11 (Avar 632-826 AD) 44% - 9%

Expensive horse archers don't traditionally do well in most match-ups and the Selucid skirmishers took a heavy toll, the horsemen pushed into combat against weaker units where they could but found themsleves surrounded and cut down.

Less Skirmishers on the Seleucid side made a big difference, the horse achers managed to swing space to focus on the Greek horsemen for a couple of turns pushing the casualties up. Things got more awkward when the foot joined in but their flanks were vulnerable and some routing pikemen sealed the deal.

tyronec Lombard 1038-1049 AD defeats Flockaveli Egyptian 570-525 BC 60-39. 4-0

The Egyptians formed up with a row of hoplites backed up be massed archers, too much for the Lombards to tackle frontally with unarmoured lancers and defensive spears. The Lombards made their main attack on the left to try and get around the flank while delaying on the right and the battle gradually degenerated into a chaotic mess with the greater number of Lombard units eventually winning out.
Tough battle, thanks for the game.

That is my last game of the competition, thanks to Karvon for organising - has been a lot of fun and fortunately I didn't get any really bad mismatches.

The Seleucid lights and artillery helped fight against the horde of Hungarian horse archers while the Seleucid infantry moved to defeat the weaker Hungarian infantry.

Despite the fact that the warbands were a demanding opponent and they made a breach in the center, the numerical advantage was decisive, especially on the left flank of the Illyrian.
