Re: Initial TDC Rankings
The ELO is a way of comparing the rating of two opposing players and awarding them a score to adjust their ratings (positive if they win and negative if they loose). Each game has a value of 50 points. Simply put if two equal players play the winner would score +25 and the looser -25. If player A has a rating 200 above player B then they system assumes that the better player (Player A) should win and so the adjustment is reduced (Player A would only go up 12.7 in that case and Player B would go down by the same amount). If Player B won the match then the adjustment is greater (+/- 34.1). There is also a small adjustment for the winning margin. I hope that makes sense to you all.
All the matches have been scored and the adjusted ratings are shown in the post above. For those who didint play in TDC1 we have used other results from either the previous Digital League, the Slitherine Tournaments or estimate. Typically new players would start at 1000, but we reserve the right to make adjustments to try to ensure as many games as possible are competitive.
The images below try to show the adjustments made for each player in TDC1 for each Era they entered.
