Just finished playing a game against my mate Geoff.

Well, things in the early battle went Geoff's way. Not as well as he'd expect or hoped, but enough that I thought he had the battle won.

Then, the turning point of the battle.

He impacted with some Spanish Medium Infantry Impact Foot into a shieldwall of Vikings.

On impact he gets an overwhealming victory against me. Something like 5 hits to 2. I lost a base and went disrupted. I'm thinking 'this could be the end of the battle'.

Then, melee.

I (with 7 original dice down to 5 for disrupted - one of which was disadvantaged) roll 5 hits. Geoff, well, Geoff rolled 1 hit. Oooh, this is not looking good. He rolls an 11 for cohesion and a 6 for death dice. Wow, well done. I'll try to kill your General - I roll an 11. He goes fragmented from seeing the general die. I guess they liked him heaps. The unit of Spartiates to their flank go Fragmented.

I now have 3 units in contact to my front who are fragmented. One from a previous fight that went my way and two that occurred right now. I have a unit of Huscarles off the flank of one of them ready to pounce and it's my turn. It would have been nice to rolle it off, but I would have impacted which would have forced one unit ot rout followed by tsts for them routing which may have (probably would have) ended in 3 unites routing.

We called it a night.

Talk about a massive turnaround!

That's one of the aspects of this game that makes it so enjoyable. Even at each of those points it could still go either way. I should enshrine my little 6pak of Dacian falxmen who simultaneously fought elephants, companions, and spears and won :)

Blathergut I think I will enshrine my pikes who had lost their entire 4th rank and still managed to break the romans who had caused those casualties in the first place :)

Of course then filled with overconfidence they failed a CMT not to charge ended up frontally engaged while the Dacians approached their open flank and proceeded to disrupt, which cost me the game.... but what a memorable game that one was....

I will always hold my Thracian Hv Weapon BG's in high regard.
Fighting in an extended melee where they were disrupted; having passed cohesions for friends breaking on each side of them, they managed to fend off a flank charge, break their frontal opponent and follow up into a second enemy BG breaking them on contact.
Sealed the game as a victory as all the surrounding enemy promptly fragmented as well.
