Anyone at Slitherine tried to track down Steve & Simtex people for a promotional thing

Take up the role of a great wizard, wield powerful spells, command fantasy races and challenge your rivals in this remake of a cult turn-based strategy classic. Do you have what it takes to become Master of Magic?

Anyone at Slitherine tried to track down Steve & Simtex people for a promotional thing

Post by Blake00 »

Posted this on the discord but it might be more of a Slitherine thing than a MuHa thing so I figured I'd chuck it here too.

I'm not sure if it's doable but I've always hoped someone would somehow track down Steve Barcia or some of the Simtex guys to talk about making MoM and MoO1&2. You semi often see remake dev & publishers doing a promotional thing and talking to original teams about making the original game and getting their thoughts on the new one (usually saying polite nice things when they prob haven't even seen it haha). Maybe you guys could track some of those guys down? Can ask them about the bloody lost source files too hahaha.

I remember a few of us in one of my MoM fans communities talking about tracking Steve down a few years back, and we found several Steve Barcia LinkedIn profiles however I'm not on that site and I don't think anyone else had the courage to message them to ask if they were him lol.

Man, simtex games were the best. Both MOM and MOO were such classics.

That's a great idea. Slitherine lacks severely in the marketing department. Already fantasy general 2 was a decent game, but it didn't get much attention.

The original crew are certainly happy if someone revisits their game & would like to talk about it.

If he was successfully found I was thinking how there's lots and lots of juicy questions fans have been wondering about for decades so Slitherine could totally do a big build up to the interview and do a fan poll on what questions the fans would like Slitherine to ask Steve. People across the fan communities would go bananas with questions haha.

Eg everyone wants to know about the failed MoM sequels as Simtex started one one around 97 and then the Microprose BOTF team started a second attempt in 2000. People would love to know what the plans were for MoM2 (especially considering the differences between MoO1 & 2) and how far did they get. If Slitherine got Steve talking about that kind of stuff odds are mainstream gaming media would pickup on it and then BOOM, you've got free advertising for the new MoM game.

Steve worked on a Metroid game for Nintendo back in the day and it looks like the Metroid fan wiki seems to think this is Steve's LinkedIn profile and not the others that fans have found. Could be worth a shot contacting him Slitherine?? ;)
