Re: question
Combat Mission series - Shock Force 2, Black Sea and Cold War are set in modern or cold war times. These games are somewhat controversial, some people love them (because of interesting, deep simulation of combat), others hate them (because of old engine, clunky interface and performance). I suggest checking the demos first to judge, if they are for you.
Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm - turn based hex game set in the cold war period. The game's main gimmick (that differentiates it from other, similar games) is that both sides may have different turn length, based on their command and communication quality. So, for example, it's possible that one player can give orders to his units every 10 minutes, but other player can give orders only every 30 minutes. These times may change during the game, if one side loses commanders or has disrupted communications. I think there is a sequel in the works, which will take place in more modern times.

Re: question
I like Combat Mission after what I saw, but I really have to try this turn-based system because it is specific
I understand that each turn lasts 60 seconds in real time and then there is a pause to give orders for the next turn?
Thanks for your responses

Re: question
Yes, it's the WEGO system. You give orders to your units during pause, then the game runs for 60 seconds in real time and you can only watch (units execute your orders, but you can't change them or give new orders during this phase). Then it pauses again and you give orders again.
Flashpoint uses similar system, but turn lenghts are variable for both sides.

Re: question
I don’t know if the turn-based game is suitable for this period of modern warfare ?

Re: question
I think that such games on an operational-tactical scale (or classic turn-base in general) like PzC or OoB make sense if the maps are significantly enlarged with the same number of units. Modern armies are much smaller than armies of II WW and operate completely differently, have much more powerful combat assets and don't have to control the entire operational area to win.terminator wrote: ↑Wed Apr 13, 2022 12:09 pm I don’t know if the turn-based game is suitable for this period of modern warfare ?
It would require a significant modification of game mechanics and methods of calculating the results of fights IMHO
Re: question
Being able to identify and attack enemy units in Fog of War would be a welcome one of the many necessary changes

Re: question
The planes were not in the battlefield unlike the helicopters but it was possible to call an aerial support (reconnaissance aircraft also).
Re: question
OK, buy it's still a game almost identical to the original PzC with the difference that there are modern units. It doesn't reflect, for example, the increased range of attack of modern weapons and many other things - electronic warfare, etc. This is good entertainment for players who like turn-based games above all, like to play something they know.
