Essentially a clash of infantry. The Danes, like the Crusaders, had created a linear array by relying on a wood and an area of ​​rough terrain. It was a battle. After a fantastic start, the Visigoths might feel the battle would go smoothly. Then the bosporan lancers came into play, like the destruction machine, ran over the entire frontline, wreaking death and chaos.
A few lucky rallies, few successful flank attacks and the brave stance of the cavalry to save whatever they could, made it possible to survive. Then, when the enemy cavalry scattered in all directions, it was no longer so deadly.
There was only a thin line between victory and disaster.

A large water feature on the Ghurid right flank shrank the battlefield considerably which helped the Spanish. However, a small marsh in the center and woods on the left helped the Ghurids. A tough battle and the bowmen on both sides made a difference. The Ghurid lancers finally turned the Spanish left flank and that was the turning point. Thanks for the game.

This was pretty much all cavalry. The Rus fielded a few infantry units but they really did not contribute much to the battle.
The Mongol hoard was hampered by terrible terrain, being trapped by a large area of enclosures. The Rus had set up on the far right of the field, leaving half the map wide open, inviting a flank attack. The Mongols attempted a sweeping flanking move in order to get behind the Rus formation. The Rus, however, had secreted a large force of heavy cavalry in the forest to intercept this anticipated Mongol move. As they passed by, the trap was sprung and the Mongol's flanking units were chewed up. With the Mongol heavy horse units destroyed or scattered, the Rus heavies then raced across the field and ripped the lighter Mongol units up.
Penned in by those enclosures and boxed by forests, the Mongols couldn't manoever well and couldn't organize for a counterattack.
Terrain and tactics determined the outcome of the battle.
