In love, but...

Post by Grunewald »

Hi dear fellow Generals,
for starters: i love PC2 and the AO-DLC.

I also like playing the game more than writing in a forum - but oh boy...

Started the normal campaign, cause of the steam-successes. On generalissimus. Fought me forward to Stalingrad. True - i had a hell of a good time. :)
But what the heck where you developers thinking about not telling me to spare 10.000 prestige right from the start?!
Now i can bury round about 17 hours of my spare time, because i have ZERO interest in playing a loosing the war scenario, meanwhile i did very well (at least in my eyes). Good core units and 4700 prestige free to spend. Unknowingly i did all the important tasks for the non-historical process. All for nothing!
Very well done, mates!
I am so frustrated and full of anger right now - even i slept 2 nights over it.
Just wanted to tell you...

Best regards
Stefan

If you have a Steam copy, I believe there is a mod that removes the Prestige gates for the German path in the original campaign. Not sure if it's also on the forum.

Sounds like a "steam-success-killer" to me. Are you sure that it won't deactivate those?
Still mad at the developers. ;)

Did you look at the Campaign Path.

There comes a time on every project when it is time to shoot the engineer and ship the damn thing.

If you have a save before the end of Stalingrad, you can change difficulty and get a cheaper ticket to 'the Volta'.
You can change back next scenario.
The 'Change Difficulty' button appears along with the 'Review BattleField' button so save must be from before that.

Since the 'campaign' file is saved at the start of the campaign editing it would require a campaign restart.

If you don't care about achievements use a cheat code:

Prestige (Set): setany prestige X – X = the value of prestige you want.

Well as long as you enjoyed the time you played that, its not wasted ;)

17 hours is not much time to be honest. I had to call hundreds of hours playtime with my crazy and undoable neg trait/special challenges combos
If you really dont want to do more than 1 playthrough, dalfredes idea sounds like the way to handle this problem.

I can understand that you dislike playing "the loosing" path. I dislike it aswell. Buuuuut the fight for Berlin is way more fun, challenging and intesting than any other fight on the winning path in my opinion. I suggest to play it at least one time, im pretty sure you will enjoy it.

But just my thoughts on this

Honestly? No - why should i? I don't want to edit vanilla. I don't want to take lessons via youtube or anything similar. I don't want to surf forums before i play just to check whether or not the developers will foul me (thats not my job - in my world).
I restarted the campaign and adjusted my playstile to meet the requirements before hitting Stalingrad. Normaly i killed every enemy unit and had fun in overstrengthening my units to hit the foe even harder. Earning medals.
Now i can't play the way I like it, because of this unnecessary madness.

Does this break the steam-success: finish campaign at generalissimus? Sounds like.

As you may have noticed in my initial post: i play this campaign on generalissimus for the steam-success.

By the way - i have zero problems to hit the 10000 prestige before Stalingrad. I restarted the campaign and adjusted my playstile to meet the requirement of which i did not know before.
But why do i have to?

I didn't fully understand the initial posting "steam-successes." I suppose I should had inferred achievements. Anyway, you shouldn't have to IMO either & should be able to proceed as you wish.

PS, the losing path is more fun.

Why would it break Steam Achievements? Serious Question, it's not a cheat code, which the game does track.

If you looked at the Campaign Path, you would discover that you can play the campaign TWICE, and not replay a single scenario.
Plus after two play throughs there will still be unplayed scenarios.
The 'winning path' can only be played once because the last 5 scenarios would duplicate.
The 'losing path' can be played twice with only Berlin being repeated.

I don't know wheter i breaks it or not. Same like i played joyful until after Stalingrad and didn't know what will happen. Thing is: the steam achievment (you are absolutly right, BarbarianHunter ;)) says i need to do it on Generalissimus. No further explanation.

The thing with the campaign path is an other story to me. When i will have finished the non historical path, i might give the historical a try. Now that i know whats going on, it will be voluntarily. And it will be from a saved game.
