Unable to log on to MP lobby

In case anyone else is having problems logging on to the FOG2 Ancients MP lobby:

I'm getting an "Invalid parameters passed" message, followed by "Authentication failed".

I've already contacted Slitherine Support at support@slitherine.co.uk

FOG2 Medieval is unaffected (for me.)

Don't know if it's linked to the same problem, but it still looks like this (although I can log in after some hazzle, as follows):

No proceed button, only cancel:


Then in any event proceeding to the login window, with the user name empty:


If clicking proceed, getting this error message:


And then getting back to the login window, with the user name specified after all (but in upper-case letters in-game, in the chatt, where it previously and correctly was in lower-case letters):

That is normal. It proceeds automatically when it is ready.

I also noticed that the username has to be re-entered each time. (In the standalone version, but not the STEAM version). This is apparently because "Due to the server change we had to switch off serial verification and we are working to restore it".

And then getting back to the login window, with the user name specified after all (but in upper-case letters in-game, in the chatt, where it previously and correctly was in lower-case letters):

Those are not upper case letters, those are lower case letters in that particular font. (I know, they are very similar, but look at the U and N in User Name).

Medieval uses a different font, where the upper and lower case letters are more clearly differentiated.

I may be wrong, but I don't think the username is case sensitive. (The password is case sensitive).

True, when logging in, but then in the in-game chats, it's kronenblatt in upper-case letters. Which is all fine, but thought I'd mention it anyway, since it's new in the chats.

Ah, I hadn't noticed that. My games may have finished before it happened.

With FOG2 (Ancients) - I click Multiplayer & then get the Login Dialog box, I click the "V" button & get:

Authentication failed.

Pls assist.

BTW, FOG2 Medieval works fine.

Your best bet is to contact support@slitherine.co.uk, as they can look into what is going on. Apologies for the hassles.

It's actually the case in the STEAM version as well (I launch both Ancients and Medieval from STEAM), and still is (but the problem only applies to Ancients). Just wanted to point out in case it simplifies finding the fix to the problem.

What exactly is happening with you?

Me too (in the Steam version), with the difference that my password is already filled in, so I only need to type in my username every time. (Worked once, end of last week, but now this problem is back.)

The PBEM people are aware of the issue, but have not yet decided how to fix it.

However, everybody should be able to log in, even if they have to re-enter their username and/or password each time, and wait a while for the login to actually occur. (My last login took 40 seconds)

So if anyone can't log in at all, please post here, and also email support@slitherine.co.uk. The new PBEM code is less tolerant over the use of old usernames/passwords than the old code was. You might need your account to be fixed - which support can do.

My username is blank. Password is there. I type in my username and it immediately says 'authentification failed'.

I will send an email.

I can press continue again and it does log in. However, my username is all lowercase in games and chat.

It's a minor issue compared to not being able to log in at all, but I hope it gets fixed.

Petrirouge (the main PBEM guy) says: "Yes, this issue is for most pbem1 and 2 games… I’m waiting for the website update."

I contacted Slitherine support and they were superfast and sorted everything out for me. I had an old account as well so both are now merged (SLancaster and SimonLancaster).

They just reset my password and I can play games no problem now.
