Skipped deployment Phase following a successful seige

Post by Karvon »

Playing in a sandbox campaign with the Swiss.

Settled in for siege, rather than assault. Siege was successful and moved on to the next stage battle. After purchasing my troops the game went straight to the first turn; no deployment phase took place. I reloaded several times and experienced the same problem each time.

I then reloaded and decided to opt for the assault and had the same problem; after I purchased my troops the game went straight to 1st turn, I had no opportunity to deploy my existing or newly purchased troops.

I then used autodeploy and at least got everyone into some semblance of an order, only to discover I was not given any other generals other than the CiC; all my infantry were assigned to just one command; my lights were divided into a couple at least.

When I faced a relief force, it worked properly BTW

OK, ran into the same issue with the facing a possible flanking force; couldn't individually deploy units, had to use autodeploy get my purchases into some sort of useful position. No extra generals allotted.

Another bizarre thing, I had half a dozen troops become disordered when the enemy flank march appeared even though it clear on the other side of field from where I was deployed :(

The flanking force scenario was an ambush scenario, and was working as intended.

You don't get a deployment phase, and suffer a mass morale test, because you have been ambushed.

I am not clear from your description what scenario type the other(s) was/were.

Hmm ok, but a bit strange for such a an effective long range effect when I have yet to see a single unit disordered by revealed troops out of hiding in a game yet.

and that doesn't account for the other scenarios where were not ambushes but siege related, or the stage following a successful siege.

True, but what type of scenario were they?

The stage following a successful siege isn't related to the siege. So as far as I can see, both of the others were the same scenario, after completing the siege one way or the other. (There is no battle for an assault)

Can you recall what the scenario was?

Could it have been an advance guard scenario?

Do you have a saved game at any stage in the campaign. If so, please .ZIP it and attach it - I should be able to see what scenario type the next battle was.

The first scenarios were related to a siege. I had completed the siege, two steps, no relief, victory declared and the next was an open battle. That is where I had the problem first.

So, I reloaded and tried an assault option, rather than besieging. I had the same issue.

If I besieged and faced a relief force, it worked as it was supposed to.

I think I have the campaign still in progress, I can zip it and send it to you. Should I do that via forum or email?

Hi Karvon,

I am relieved to say that this was not a bug.

I have checked out your saved campaign.

In your sandbox campaign, the next battle after the siege ends (whether it ends by normal siege operations, assault, a siege relief battle, or you running out of supplies and having to abandon the siege) is an Ambush (not an open battle).

As such you don’t get a Deployment phase.

You only got one general in the autodeployment because your army is entirely infantry, and as there is no deployment phase, you can’t add more. The same would happen in a non-Campaign Custom Battle Ambush (Enemy) scenario.

I will look into the possibility of allowing more to be added in such circumstances, but I am not sure how feasible that is going to be, as the normal program flow would not allow it. If the issue cannot be fixed, it will have to be rationalised as part of the confusion of the ambush. The Swiss didn't really have generals anyway.

Cheers,

Richard
