Division D
SawyerK with the Romans narrowly
won against
ulysisgrunt and his Seleucids
by 65 to 52.
The final score does not indicate how close this game was as there was only a 1 point difference in the two forces before the final move.
Both armies eradicated their opponent's left flank and wheeled to continue their attack on almost a north-south line where they continued to brutalize each other. The Romans benefited greatly from the Seleucid cataphract's long pursuit of vanquished enemies as they proved almost impossible to defeat.

Div B
Karvon - Carthaginian 235-146BC with Spanish 300 -10 BC defeated desertedfox - Assyrian 681 - 609 BC allies Egyptian 664 - 571 BC 56-31 for a score of 85-31.
The battlefield was dominated by difficult ground; in the center lay a range of hills, mostly steep and rough, and beyond those and stretching off to the right edge a rather large forest. The left flank was also sealed off by a river. In short, it seemed like perfect ground for us with out large number of medium and light foot available.
Our plan was pretty simple; a mass of Spanish and Phoenician foot would assault across the steep hills in the center screened by some of our lights to cut down losses from the expected Assyrian bow fire. A smaller block of African spears would advance in support to the right and wheel to help clear the small open ground below the hills and short of the forest supported by some elephants and lights. Most of our cavalry supported by an elephant would screen the right flank and attempt to push through gaps in the woods to turn the enemy left. A couple of light horse were detached to screen our left and threaten the enemy right flank.
The Assyrians deployed mostly to the right of the forest and hills; A contingent of mixed heavy foot anchored their right against the river with a block off Assyrian heavy foot in their center supported by some cavalry and a chariot or two. Facing the hills and along the forest was a block of Assyrian medium foot. A few light foot were mixed along the front. I was pleasantly surprised to see a fair sized cavalry wing placed before the forests on their left.
We launched our attack pretty much as planned; our mediums easily secured the hills and our cavalry wing pretty quickly engaged and chased off the Assyrian horse on our right and began working to turn the flank. The challenge was with our spears and elephant attempting to clear the narrow path between the forest and the hills held by some of the Assyrian heavy foot supported by a chariot. Some of our lights and a supporting medium foot pushed through the forest and helped turn the enemy left flank which pinned down the Assyrian chariot for the moment and allowed some of our battered foot to withdraw and rally. This turned into a slow slog as the rest of the battle developed.
The Assyrians attempted to assault the steep hills we held with a mix of some medium and heavy foot. Needless to say, the heavy foot was not successful and most that was fairly quickly broken. Assyrian bow fire did wear down some of our defenders and after a bit of a fight they did manage to push up on to the hill after one or two of our guys gave way.
In the heavy foot battle in the center, our elephant and spears finally punched a hole by breaking one of the heavy foot, which opened up the flank of those still engaged. At about that time, our cavalry flankers arrived only to find their way mostly barred by the enemy heavy foot redeployed from the right. We did manage to engage and destroy some of his surviving horse and that pursuit brought us into the rear of the action in the center leading to more broken units.
Finally, in the hills, our superior numbers came into play and we flanked and broke some of the Assyrians who had forced their way up on to the hill.
With that, the Assyrians decided they'd had enough and fled the field.

Delbruck (Daylamis) and oscarius (Frankish) agreed to a 0-0 draw. Rough ground in the center and steep hill(s) proved to be more restrictive than the armies anticipated, preventing them from coming to grips with each other.

Hi Guys
Both of you must agree on the map, on the first 2 attempts to use it. The 3rd attempt you have to use the map
This gives you a chance to reissue challenge so I will not record the results
Cheers

Vadim 84 (Persia 591) won against Badger73 (Roman 197) 43-13 , so
Vadim= 90 pts
Badger=13 pts
Flat and good ground that really gives Persia an edge against lower-mobility armies.
