A Call to Mac Users & Supporters
As you already know, Slitherine has unilaterally decided to discontinue its support for new OOB DLC's on Mac version. I deem this attitude irrespectful with the many faithful costumers which for so many years helped this franchise to be one of their most successful creations. I invite all OOB Mac users, and also other players which may feel sympathetic to this plea, to join this thread and voice our request to Slitherine to consider a reversion on its decision. Let us say: we want OOB for Mac!

Re: A Call to Mac Users & Supporters
Masca, I am not a Mac user but I will lend my support to what you are saying. I don't know the dollars and cents of programming for Mac but I am certain of one thing: This community is too small to lose any customers or forum members. You in particular, for the contributions and assistance that you have offered in conjunction with my projects. I hope that, in some manner, you will be able to stick around.

Re: A Call to Mac Users & Supporters
By the way, I moved this thread from Scenario Design to the general forum for greater visibility.
I wonder if the designers have an accurate assessment of how many Mac users there are here. Already, in the "Important Update for Mac Users" thread, I see several Mac users with single-digit post counts, signing on just to register their displeasure. How many more are out there and lurking up until now? They will not be lurking much longer, I wager.

I agree with OP- I'm a Mac user and would hope that Slitherine would decide to keep support going. I discovered Slitherine because of their Mac support many years ago, and they earned my loyalty for it since then. Like the old days with Aspyr, I would be willing to have releases that were delayed compared to the Windows release, and/or pay more; that's just always been the trade-off of owning a Mac.
I understand that you can run Windows programs in a virtual machine, or get a cheap Windows laptop, or use the proposed solution of the GEFORCE cloud service, but it is just more comfortable running native Mac apps. I have purchased Windows licenses (in big sale events) to run in a VM but almost never use them; the extra effort was enough to dissuade me from doing so, and won't be buying any more. Based on those purchases, I probably profile as a Windows & Mac user to the company, but am definitely a Mac-only user. I would greatly appreciate continuing releases of the Mac versions of OOB and other games.

Thanks for your solidarity, Bru. I'd really like to hear from all Mac users in this issue. Or are we so few, really?

Re: A Call to Mac Users & Supporters
My fear is that many of them are already gone. But it's their enterprise and I am sure they did not make this decision lightly. I just wonder on what basis they concluded that their Mac user community was too small to warrant further effort. I am guessing that it's based on tracking the amount of purchases or downloads by operating system?Mascarenhas wrote: ↑Fri Jan 29, 2021 11:36 am Thanks for your solidarity, Bru. Yep, I think so. Now, I'll try to scavenge an old pc of mine and try to adapt it for playing OOB. Let's see if it works.

Re: A Call to Mac Users & Supporters
By the way, I looked briefly at a couple of alternatives (besides resurrecting an old PC) that have been mentioned here and there.
1) Steam Cloud Play, using NVIDIA GeForce NOW. I haven't a clue what this means, but it appears that it's not something that players would initiate; instead, the developers would need to sign up for this service and presumably adapt their products accordingly. It doesn't sound like something that would be interesting to them, given their reasons for discontinuing Mac service in the first place. Doubly so if the service costs money.
2) 5 Ways to Run Windows Software on a Mac. This, the player could do. Sure, it's a pain in the neck and a lot to ask merely for the privilege of playing this game. But, if one feels strongly enough about OOB, it could be a viable alternative.

By, now, I'm trying to rev up that old carcass. Let's see. So many updates, upgrades, and adjustments...
Re: A Call to Mac Users & Supporters
I've been a long time supporter and player of OOB and this is very disappointing. Is there any hope that a 3rd party developer will port new DLCs to the Mac?

I remember when Apple unilaterally discarded all 32-bit apps. What goes around comes around.

This old tub is buzzing and whining, its graphics are not so good, but, in the end, this is the cheapest option available to me, the only one, that is.

Re: A Call to Mac Users & Supporters
Masca, I answered your twin messages elsewhere, complaining about game performance on this PC, with these questions: "The old PC that you said you were resurrecting in order to play AD on OOB version 9.0.0, just how old is it? Has it been recently maintained and had drivers updated?"
Let me be more specific here. Is it Windows 10? Hopefully so, because I am not sure how W10 would be to update a very old machine. Enough memory? Can it take another RAM chip? Sufficient hard drive space? Defragmented the disk? Excluded the game folders from anti-virus? Latest graphics driver?
One more thing: This is only my own experience, not a knock on OOB, but I could not play OOB on my old laptop. I haven't a clue as to why; I can only speculate that it could not handle OOB's demands for resources and it would run hot and crash. On this newer laptop, it runs smooth as silk (version 8.6.5 so far; have not leapt to 9.0.0 yet). Even so, just to be sure, I regularly run OOB with a laptop cooler.
That last part doesn't help you at all, I know, except to share your disappointment and a possible reason why, if this alternative PC does not work out for you.
