Difficulty settings

Is there a way to modify the difficulty settings? The jump from sergeant and knight is huge for me. Sergeant is no challenge. Knight... I might win 20% of the time or so.

Sergeant makes my troops above average with enemy troops below average. A 2 level advantage.
Knight makes both sides average troops. No level advantages.

I'd like to set Sergeant to 1 level advantage rather than 2.

Any ideas? Can it be done safely?

My abilities at this game are just like it was playing on the table top... not particulary good but I have fun.

In custom battle, click on 'Hiding Advanced Option', then tweak the Force points of Side A and B to get more/better units.

You could mod the game scripts, but what Athos suggests is a lot easier.

When he says "more/better units" he does not mean that the unit qualities are tweaked as they are at Sergeant level, he just means you get more points to spend - which will allow you to purchase more or better units.
