batesmotel (Samnite) beat GeneralKostas (Campanian) 40-11
Despite resistance from some of the citizens of Cumae, the citizenry has seen the wisdom of accepting enlightened Samnite rule and the benefits of uniting with their inland relatives.

Caulonia: Karvon (Greek) versus dim30 (Lucanian)
Greek phalanx shifted wide right to avoid large rough patches screened by light foot and horse and supported by a handful of cavalry. Lucanians threw out a blocking force to prevent the flanking move and moved their skirmishers up to confront ours closely supported by their medium foot. Their cavalry moved up to threaten our left.
Our light horse snuck by the blocking force, but our phalanx was forced to break off a detachment to counter that while wheeling to face the oncoming Lucian mediums. Our light foot, though evenly matched and getting in the opening salvo fled and mostly died at the hands of the opposing Lucanian skirmishers. A couple were caught and chased well off the field by one of their cavalry, putting it decisively out of the battle. We redeployed our own cavalry, and supported by some surviving light foot and some spears, countered and contained the Lucanian horse flanking attempt.
The infantry battle between the Lucanian mediums and our Greek heavies took a while to resolve, but the quality edge, though offset a little by a few superior armored Lucanians, made the end result inevitable, especially once we pushed through the Lucanian horse on our left and turned their right flank. Our light horse hovering in the rear pursued broken Lucanians to insure they didn't rally and eventually they collapsed.
Final score 55-30.
Caulonia has been occupied by the victorious Greek army.

At Terventum: Karvon (Samnite) defeated carpenkm (Apulian) 41-5
Samnite veteran infantry led a sweeping march across a series of hills on our right screened by light foot and supported by a couple of cavalry while anchoring the wheeling move on an enclosure at the base of the hills on our left. The Apulians fell back in the face of our advance and attempted to turn our left with some of their horse and foot.
Our right caught and drove off some of his cavalry screening his left and supporting foot began to move to turn his center facing our line near the base of the hills. Our lights closely supported by our mediums dispatched most of his lights and our mediums began to engage his opposing foot along the center. He attempted to turn our enclosure defenders on our left with some foot and horse.
The infantry battle in the center went slowly but poorly for the Apulians thanks to our impact and veteran advantage along much of the line. Though outnumbered, our enclosure defenders held out grimly as more foot moved up to secure that flank and flank his engaged troops.
His center began to crumple under the strain vs our veterans and the arrival of our flanking troops sealed the fate of those still engaged. Meanwhile, in the enclosure, a surrounded defender finally collapsed but the neighboring units held and our flankers took our more of his engaged horse and the Apulians fled the field.
Terventum was saved and the people rejoiced.

Panormus: SpeedyCM versus carpenkm (Carthaginian), Mediterranean Hilly
carpenkm beats SpeedyCM 59 -32
A tough match - a game of two collapsing flanks. The defenders got luck as their flank collapsed less dramatically. well played Speedy - i'm sure you will get your revenge.

Thanks - i wish i could use my own army as well! I was slaughtered by the Samnites! The apulians could really do with some veteran Italian foot (or some Carthaginians)!markleslie wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 12:20 amThe defenders of Panormus are to be commended for their indomitable will and martial ability in the face of naked aggression.carpenkm wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 11:37 pm Panormus: SpeedyCM versus carpenkm (Carthaginian), Mediterranean Hilly

You should have some nice allies for your next stab at the Samnites.

Yep, unfortunately Carthaginians are not in the list of Apulian allies, but your own army will at least be able to use Mercenaries as allies or main army for free or get +30 FP bonus in the next round.carpenkm wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 12:28 amThanks - i wish i could use my own army as well! From rules
A player having won a battle when defending a Town or City (whether his own or not) against another player's army in a Type B battle is for his own army in all its battles (whether Type A or Type B) next round free (but not obliged) to:
- use the the culture of that Town or City as allies (if available in his list of allies), and
- either use Mercenary as allies or main army without any FP penalty (i.e., without any of the -25 or -50 FP penalties) or get a +30 FP bonus.
EDIT: changed wording (underlined) in the first bullet above for rules to be consistent.

Aetius (Greeks) defeats markleslie (Syracusans) 63-46
Hard-fought win for the Greeks; the Syracusans put up a great fight. The Greeks lost the light war, and there were drops/flanks everywhere. Slowly they eked out a win. GG and well played by my opponent!^^

Download of version 4 (v4)
Version 4 (v4) of the Vae Victis III Bellum Italicum module for multi-player (MP) and single-player (SP) is now available for download in-game, so ensure that you all got it before next round's fighting begins.
(Also, take the opportunity to delete obsolete versions 1-3 (v1-3) from your drive (has to be done manually, in your My Games folder).)
