I have thought the same using this system. A draw would mean 0 points for each player. I think with the older system a draw would give the lower placed player more points? Thing is I am terrible at being defensive:)kronenblatt wrote: ↑Tue Dec 07, 2021 10:08 pmYou mean two games?ericdoman1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 07, 2021 9:58 pm I am wondering if you allowed both players the opportunity to use allies. Each player issues challenges with his army including allies, if needed. Armies will still be swapped and the overall winner receives the points?
Too complicated. Plus one player told me that he when playing someone 3 places down (me), it cost too much him losing and me winning and thus he played defensively and for a draw. Which goes against what I'd like to achieve with the EGL: I want to encourage fun games where players can take some chances, make mistakes, etc., without it all being too serious.

The old system created imbalanced incentives. Plus that it was complicated, as mentioned.ericdoman1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 07, 2021 10:20 pm I think with the older system a draw would give the lower placed player more points?

Too complicated too. I prefer to keep the EGL simple and straightforward (unlike my other tournamentsericdoman1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 07, 2021 10:17 pm Yes, each player issues challenge with their army and ally. So I issued a challenge Navarrese and Spanish vs Khorasanian. You could then issue a challenge Khorasanian + X vs Navarrese. We total up the scores and the winner receives the point(s).

Welcome, Alan/Blagrot! I've added you to the spreadsheet with Alan 651-1049 as starting army, so you're good to go.

Aetius (Byzantines) defeats Karvon (Indians)
Good re-positioning of both armies; Byzantine infantry was a major factor as opposed to the cavalry usually doing the job. GG!

Re: Ever-Green League - 900 AD
Result.
Stew101 (Khazar) defeats Doyley50 (Rus) .
Score 43 -11.
On a really horrible map for both armies - loads of woods and difficult hills - the Khazar's had slightly the better mix of forces.
They had more archers and LI, backed by MI to win the skirmish encounter on the left flank.
The Khazar horse had limited room for fancy moves, but just enough firepower, with the help of their LI to overcome the mounted Rus on their right flank.
The centre of the Khazar line was held by mounted lancers, who danced in from of the Rus spearmen, whilst pepparing them with arrows.
The terrain channeled the Rus between a wood and a hill, whilst they took hit after hit.
This allowed the Khazar spearmen to step forward and deliver to coup de grace to the only Rus Huscarl unit to actually rout.
Thanks to Doyley for a challenging game.

Blagrot has yet to post his triumph so I will save him the trouble....
Blagrot (Alan) beat devoncop (Arab Abbasid)
Thanks to my friendly opponents in this section. I have decided to stick to the Classical era from now on as this era is evidently far too modern for my reactionary tendencies.
Thanks again
