Well, it's hard to help you since you provide no details and no screenshots. However, I will provide some suggestions as to what may be wrong.

First, the designer neglected to tag the ninth Primary VP that must be taken for the first Primary Objective. It is this unnamed crossroads in the middle of the map:

The trigger definitely requires 9 (that is, >8) Primary VPs to be in Allied hands, and the designer points to only 8 of them (and does not link the trigger condition to the objective so that a counter could be seen on the Turn Overview screen), so you may be holding only 8 Primary VPs:

Here's another thought. These triggers are intended to repeat, so that indicates the AI may be able to recapture a Primary VP. Has that happened?

As to the other Primary Objective, destroying 15 Axis land units, the designer did link this trigger condition to the objective but due to the bug that has been reported here, the goal and progress counter do not show up on the Turn Overview screen either. Without it, how do you know that you have killed 15 Axis land units?

So, if you go to the end of the scenario with one or both of these objectives still open — and again, there's no way to track progress on either one — then the scenario will assign you a Defeat. Perhaps you don't realize that in order to win the scenario, both Primary Objectives need to be completed and have a green check in place of the question mark.

I made a couple of quick changes as shown below, and now the objective counters appear:

Except as you see, the player STARTS OFF with three kills in the bag already! That's because the designer did not handle this "Wrecks" feature properly:

The three wrecks are German units and when they are removed by Kill (to give the wrecked unit effect), they count toward the "Destroy 15 Axis land units" objective. The proper way to do this is to assign the units to be wrecked to a neutral or no man's faction so that they don't count toward the human or AI factions. (It is also necessary to include a Change Hex Ownership effect so that the hex is assigned back to a human or AI faction.)

Heh, quite a can of worms you have opened, Notlob55. :)

Anyway, I ran a test, using quickly placed U.S. infantry units and the nifty #instakill cheat code, and the scenario worked properly. I fulfilled one primary objective, then the other, then got my Victory (the photo is blank because I ran the test in the scenario editor):

Thus, Notlob55, I think your problem is that you really had not completed one or the other of the Primary Objectives, as indicated by green checkmarks, before the end of the scenario. Hence, a Defeat.

Thanks, Bru for your investigation and help!! and speed of response. I had completed the destruction of AXIS units and got a green tick on that. It was the missing VP at the crossroads I hadn't done, but then how would I have known? I have done this scenario several times and wasted hours!(as a relative newbie)

Do I have to restart the scenario from scratch to benefit from the changes you have made to the game? or the whole campaign?

thanks Notlob

My pleasure, Notlob. Bear in mind, though, that I am not an official with Slitherine or the designing company. I am a mere forum moderator (but I have designed some custom stuff, which explains why I know these things).

I point these errors out with the hope that one of the officials will notice and make changes accordingly in their DLC, which would come in a future patch. So no changes have been made to the game or the campaign that you would see until then, if any.

The good news is, now that we have pinpointed the issue as being the 9th primary VP that you were overlooking due to the designer's not having earmarked it (and not providing an objective counter), the scenario will work if you know to conquer all 9 of them.

The bad news is, you will have to reload your latest campaign save and start this scenario again IF you can't go back to an earlier scenario save and proceed from that point with enough time to take the 9th primary VP.
