New Kingdom Egyptian or Later Sumerian

Post by redben »

I'm starting FoG and I've managed to whittle my extremely long list of armies I want to play down to three, Late Republican Rome, New Kingdom Egyptian and Later Sumerian. I'm definitely going to do LRR as one of my first two armies and LS and NKE will be the other.

From people who play/have tried LS and NKE would you recommend them? Are they fun to play, good armies for a new player, too weak/strong, duplicate what another army does better etc?

I'm finishing up an LRR army--a fun, straight forward army.

Okay, I haven't played either of the armies you mentioned from Swifter than Eagles but I'll note that there is a thread on NKE in the First Impressions of STE posting below this one that hashes out the New Kingdom list. My preference is to play armies either against historical opponents or at least "within book". Are you planning on taking the army to a tournament? If it's an open tournament others you may have a real challenge with either army. (Mind you, I don't do tournaments :-)

Have fun!

Thanks for the reply, I'll hunt out the NKE post. I would like to start getting to tournaments though the likelihood would be that by then I should have been able to have put together two armies and would be able to use the LRR. My potential opponents have a good range of armies so I should be able to get a 'within book' game with any of those.

See Dave R's battle report of NKE versus Palmyrans viewtopic.php?t=11047 for some idea of how the NKE can work.

I'd say both armies are hard pressed to win anything in an open competition, but if I had to pick one I'd go the NKE. If you want to go biblical and be competative I'd suggest Babylonian or Assyrian... but I could be totally wrong... I don't have much experience with Chariots.

Redben, just curious, did you decide whether to go with Later Sumerian or NKE?

Cheers,

I decided to go with NKE though I decided to build LRR first. If you're interested you can follow how I do with them here.

Thanks. There's a thread I've got on the main part of the FoG board called 'Veni, vidi...' which I update as I add new content.
