Game 4 Period 3

Hell on Wheels - Karvon (Navarrese) loss 14 vs Cry Havoc - tmac11 (Franks w/ Croatians) loss 43

The field was dominated by very rough ground. A large steep hill lay in about the middle with a road running along it's right flank across the field. Another steep hill looked down from the right on this road forming a long narrow valley. This hill then turned and ran off to the right edge on my side of the board. Running along the foot of these two hills, and bisected by the road was a forest. Both steep hills ran to gentler slopes stretching out to nearly the edges of the field. A large marsh lay beyond a bit to the right of the right hill with a forest lying beyond that in the far right corner of the board. A small gentle slope with a few rough patches lay beyond the central woods to the right of the road looking across some open ground at the marsh. Another gentle ridge ran from a little beyond and to the left of the central woods. A small grove of trees and a few rough patches fell on this ridge. This created a long narrow valley between this ridge and the higher longer central hill. Finally, a rather large forest lay in left center on my side of the field, running along the foot of the central hill.

I immediately decided this was not going to be a day for my lancers and instead deployed an almost all foot force comprised mostly of medium and light foot supported by a single dismounted lancer, 3 defensive spear, a pair of bowmen, a pair of lancers and half a dozen light horse. My plan was pretty simple, I was going to send a wave of lights sweeping across the rough terrain and shoot up anything that happened to get in the way. A wave of medium foot would follow up the lights and finish off victims of the lights and move to flank the enemy on our right. The lone dismounted knight would push up the road in support of the mediums in the neighboring hills and woods. The spear would hold the left refused initially and then move up to defend the central hill if the enemy held back. Our two lancers would act as a mobile reserve, probably shifting right to support the flanking move.

The Franks deployed about a half dozen dismounted lancers on the gentle slope overlooking the narrow valley and up at the central hill. A pair of bowmen and a few light foot were deployed on the slopes below them. A couple of lancers were in reserve covering their fight flank. A few defensive spear and medium foot extended out to their left opposite the central woods. What I saw didn't change my initial plans.

My light wave swept forward with the rest of the infantry moving more slowly behind. The Franks initially held their position as they couldn't see most of my troops are weren't sure exactly of my intentions I suspect. As my mediums came into view on the central hills, he shifted a few troops to the gentle hill on his left looking down on the central forest and more distant marsh. My lights moved up carefully and uncovered a couple of units in the central woods. We very deliberately concentrated fire and rather quickly saw these off. A skirmishing war raged in the center for awhile, but my light horse chased off a number of his lights giving me an edge there. He tried to clear them out using his lancers, but these were fairly quickly shot up and fled. Likewise, our concentrated fire broke up one of his bow and his other foot fell back a bit up the slope to put some distance between them and our bow.

Our mediums had come up to the edge of the central forest and our dismounted lancers trudged up the road through the trees to complete the line. The Franks advanced down the gentle slopes and engaged us all along the treeline. One of his spears quickly broke, but otherwise, this melee raged inconclusively as our mediums continued to shift right to envelop the enemy left.

With the center fully engaged now, more of our lights shifted right to deal with his troops defending the gentle hill overlooking the woods on his left. These shot up his lancers covering his left when they tried to clear some of them away. Our own lancers moved over the right steep hill and supported the advance of our mediums and lights towards the hill. These finished off the fragmented lancers. We shot up and broke one of these spears as we worked our way around the hill to threaten the two remaining defenders. I think that was the final straw that pushed the Franks over the limit.

A 4-0 win for the Navarrese.

Good news! A resounding victory for the People's Front of Judea, their Roman oppressors with their Arab allies have been beaten. The battlefield was an open plain with a few trees on the Roman's left flank. The Roman general went for a mobile option with a Cataphract, many lancers, some cavalry and a lot of light horse to supplement a warband, Legio Palatina, Auxilla Palatina and Legio Comitatensis. The Judean army was, as always, many zealots supplemted by irregular MF and a fiar few archers and slingers. The opening moves saw a set of Arab lancers move to the Judean left and the foot head to right supplemented by many cavalry, while the cataphract and armoured lancers were set to the centre. The Judean army sent 5 LF to shadow the Arabs with the main line moved right to engage the Roman foot only to find 2 more Auxilla Palatina to advance from the trees. Things weren't looking to good, but the Arab lancers moved away from the LF and so the pressure on the left was removed and the cat and lancer centre disengaged when threatened by zealots. This left the Roman foot on the right without support and it was soon overwhelmed and the battle was won!

Period 1. Cry Havoc wins against Hell on Wheels 48-19

This was a battle of quality against quantity, Hannibal had 4 units of VAS plus Imitation legions and Scutari against a mass of assorted Carthaginians and Hoplites.
There was a low hill in the center of the map which the Carthaginians conceded to Hannibal with his stronger units, instead sending forces around both flanks with a few units held back in the center. Once Hannibal was completely surrounded the attack began, with a race to get in as many flank attacks as possible before the VAS routed too many units in frontal combat. It was helped by an early general kill which caused a couple of Hannibalic units to fold to open a gap in the line and in the end the flank attacks did the business.

Period 2

Aetius39 (Romans I) defeats IMC (Romans II) 63-37

Hell on Wheels loss 37
vs.
Cry Havoc loss 63

A civil war battle, and in proper Roman fashion! IMC's Romans waited at the end of the map near a fairly long rising hill. Roman I came towards them and after some skirmishing the lines hit, and it was a slugfest! Many broke on both sides but the cavalry and elephant of Aetius' army probably won the day by hitting the flanks often and hard at the end. Great game and good effort by my opponent who under slightly different circumstances would have won. Thanks for playing!^^

Game 3 Period 3
Furor Gallico loss 19% inglorious brits 50% loss

The french ran to the summit of a big hill , covered on their left by a big mountain , they manage to catch arabs archers before they fire on light french troops , once again arabs would have to climb to fight , they gathered their courage , a troop composed by some foot lancers and horse lancers crossed the river and attack the french left line . In the same time , a horse lancer decided to turn around the mountain to try to catch the rear of the french and viking army. On the left , a veteran dailami forced an offensive foot lancer to go back , The Attack on the right was a success , arabs went on the hill and kill every ennemies.
Thanks to my opponent for a good game which was for me done to be a draw , the attack was rewarded :)
