Re: RIGHTHAND KNOCK-OUT GAMES - Results
Group 6, Game 2
Period 4 Team Terror Australis - loss 47 vs Furor Gallico – loss 62
Two Polish armies went head to head one with German allies and the other Baltic. A large hill covered with patches of rough occupied the center with forests to either flank. The field certainly favored having the invaluable impact foot of the Baltic allies but unfortunately for them their opponent went with an unexpected army build which put them on the back foot. Trying to work the flanks the Poles with Baltic allies drove back their cousins left but had their own left annihilated. To avoid dying to missile fire they were forced to attack in the center but the enemy knights held them off long enough for the crossbowmen they protected to deliver volleys and flanking attacks for the win. A very tough match.

Hi mates, please may you add few sentences when you report the result?
It could be very useful for me when I'm going to write the recap of the first KO phase round.
Many thanks

Group 6 Game 2
Period 3
Furor Gallico loss 23 - TerrorAustralis loss 51
Umayaad waited byzantines on a big hill on their left and little hills on the right
Byzantines at first killed a lot of arab archers and skirmichers using the arrows of skutatoi and archers units , which composed the base of the center and left of the byzantine army , all his right was composed with inexperimented skoutatoi and archers.
Two horse arab lancers managed to pass at right and go behind byzantine army, in the same time , foot lancers engaged the combat , winning most of them , often 2 against one. On the left of the arab army a dailami unit helped by irregular and 2 horse lancers attacked the inexperimented skoutatoi , definetly not enough good fighters to survive.
Another dailami unit descend the big hill and killed many average skutatoi
Byzantines were not enough numerous to continue the fight.

Right Hand Knock-Out Series: Cry Havoc vs. 1st Continental Section - Period 3
Geffalrus (Byzantines) defeats tmac11 (Franks and Croats)
Byzantines: 35% losses vs. Franks: 62% losses
The battle started off at a leisurely pace as our skirmishers traded shots in the open ground between our respective forests and rough zones. Superior numbers allowed the Byzantines to gain an upper hand, and they sounded the horn to advance on the Franks. The Franks fell back in some disorder, and so the Byzantine cavalry moved in aggressively, scenting blood in the proverbial water. This however, was a trap, as the Frankish infantry suddenly charged forward and engaged the lancers with far more success than the Byzantine general had expected. Frankish cavalry slammed into the Thematic infantry guarding the flanks and punched some holes in the waiting skutatoi. The proud Varangians charged into the fray to rescue the situation......and promptly found themselves flanked, disrupted, and routed.
All appeared lost for the Byzantines until word reached them that the Varangians were very sorry for leaving the party so early, and were gathering themselves for another effort. Three straight turns of rallying by their general in charge brought them back to the battle in time to engage the Frankish spears exhausted by constant harassment by the Byzantine skirmishers. Working together with the remaining skutatoi, lancers, and mighty Klibanophoroi, the Varangians munched their way through the Frankish infantry one by one before the elite Frankish dismounted lancers and cavalry could return to save them. Good game to my opponent who fought most fiercely.

Right hand knock-out results, Period 1
Deeter (Carthage) defeats kleyecles (Carthage) 51-25
Hell on Wheels loss 25
Pershing's Pikes loss 51
The map for this Carthaginian civil war was dominated by a large mountain smack in the middle and flanked to the right by a long ridge with another hill on top and broken ground on the approach. The rebel army went dig on mediums while the patriots (me) opted for heavy infantry, cavalry and the obligatory elephant.
The fratricidal fighting mostly took place on open ground atop the ridge where the heavy infantry had the advantage. The rebel generals fell in succession while the patriotic elephants supported their cavalry on the open flank. An interesting game to be sure.

Period 2
Aetius (Romans) defeats ulysisgrunt (Jewish Revolt) 61-45
Hell on Wheels loss 45
vs.
Pershing's Pikes loss 61
Heavy grind against good opponent who came close to breaking the mighty Romans. Zealots are really tough! The battle started with both sides at the end of a flat, high plateau. The problem was the Jewish rebels had more lights than the Romans, but luckily enough were distracted for the Roman right to attack the enemy flank where a Jewish unit was disrupted by light fire. The Roman left fared much worse, but luckily the legions got a few good flanks in the middle as the right kept on pushing through, while the cavalry kept enough of the Jewish rear units in check by threatening the rear. Good game, thanks for playing!

Period 3
Karvon (Navarrese) defeats ratprince (Byzantine) 60-32
Hell on Wheels loss 32
vs.
Pershing's Pikes loss 60
A large plateau sprinkled with rough laying along our left edge was the center of the action. An impassible river ran along the right with a couple of fords. We deployed most of our lights on the plateau with our heavy and medium foot hidden at the foot of the plateau initially. A few light horse we deployed as a screen and a couple we hid in woods across the river. We deployed one division of lancers in the center against the back edge. We deployed two divisions behind the plateau. The Byzantines deployed an infantry block of Skuotatoi in the center and a large mixed cavalry body on their right. A couple of horse they held in reserve to support their infantry.
The Byzantine cavalry galloped up on to the plateau to engage my lights. Their infantry followed up after a bit of pause on a defensive position atop a ridge. Our lights skirmished with the advancing cavalry, falling back on rough patches after shooting up a couple of their horse. Our light horse cross the river raced to distant ford and came up behind the Byzantines and begin harassing one of their reserve cavalry. We moved one of our lancer divisions up on to the plateau to support our retreating skirmishers.
With the support of our lancers our skirmishers aggressively went after the remaining horse, shooting up a couple more. Our lancers went after these, chasing some away and catching and breaking others. We moved our infantry up to the plateau to lend support to the lancers and confront the oncoming Byzantine infantry. We moved up our second division of lancers to exploit the shaken Byzantine right and oppose their lone Klibanophorai covering their infantry's flank. Our last division of lancers skirted right to threaten the left flank of the enemy infantry block. Our light horse ranging in the rear, hunted down and finished off another of their lancers, then turned to pursue fleeing Byzantines.
The infantry lines engaged along the plateau and fighting was inconclusive at first. Both sides managed to turn flanks, the Byzantines turning our right, and we coming in from the rear, leading to breaks on both sides. However, our lancers closed in from several directions, giving us an edge in disruptions. A returning Byzantine horse archer charged in and disrupted one of our mediums fighting in the rough but got bounced. Our skirmishers promptly shot him to pieces, saving my lancers the trouble of seeing him off. That was the final straw that broke the Byzantine camel's back.

Game 7
Period 4
Portugese with Berber allies (Triarii) loss 27 defeats German (Imperial) with Hungarian allies (edb1815)
A very tricky game where a very central lake saw both armies deploy to their left of the lake. The first few turns were lost in dancing round the lake.
Opposite the Germans was a hill and a combination of the sacrifice of muslim light spear cavalry and the Portugese knights being mounted while the Germans were mostly dismounted meant the Portugese just got there first and established all their x-bows on the hill behind the mounted knights. Those x-bows dismantled the German troops below the hill while Portugese light troops with Sergeants and Camels got in behind - just in time as Portugese knights pursuing off the hill had been flanked and broken by excellent unit placement. Until the very last a very tense and close game.
Good game.

Period 1.
Cry havoc (Carthaginian + Greek) loss 8 Continentals (Spartan + Roman) loss 41.
The game was largely determined by the deployment. On the right flank the Spartans had a rough hill but were outnumbered 3:2 by the Carthaginians in MI and Lights. The center of the map was an open plain where the mass of pikes and Romans were lined up. Some cavalry from both sides faced each other on the left. The Carthaginian attack on the right was able to swamp the defenders with missiles and the flank gradually rolled up. In the center the Carthaginians held back until the right flank was resolved, the Spartans eventually attacked but had insufficient units to cover their flanks and suffered accordingly. On the left the Carthaginian cavalry got caught out of position and paid the price. Recorded

Game 5 Period 3
Inglorious Brits (Morat - French/Viking) 36 losses beat Serbia (Oko za ok zub za zub) (DzonVejn - Viking) 67 losses
French/Vikings sat back, and (after and exchange via heralds) their Viking foes very generously came down off a severe hill and over the river to fight on the flat. The French then marched to face them.
Close fought throughout, the battle was determined on a couple of close melees and French lancers managing to get round the right flank and rear to get at the viking foes, while the left just held on long enough to prevent too drastic a collapse. The mixture of French heavy infantry, with a scattering of viking allies, and horse just prevailed.
Thanks to DzonVejn for a terrific battle played in an excellent spirit. On another day he would have prevailed.

period 1:
furror gallico (Spartans- dim30) draws with terror Australis (Carthaginians-Najanaja) 45-34
The carthaginians established a solid line of defense with a wood on the right and a high hill on the left. At first Spartan tried to lure Carthaginians on the side of the wood with numerous Thureophoroi but Hannibal did'nt fall in the trap and keep his line. Seeing that, Spartans decide to move on the other flank, gathering all the army but 3 thureo who guard the wood. Assault on the hill was difficult and some Thueros were destroyed. Some flancking attacks and the arrival of the spartans pikes allow the spartan side to take the hill and thereafter to destroy main line of Carthaginian. In the end of the game, no one stand against the heavy pikes and romans allies, but lots of Carthaginians medium and numerous peasky light infs and cav prevent the Spartan victory.
A good game with a lot's of manoeuver to get in good positon. Well played Najanaja.

Game 5 Period 2
Furror Gallico 21 losses defeated Terror Australis 47 losses
The armies were very similar : Romans with Armenians versus Romans with Bedouins
The Armenians took a defensive line on a hill while the Bedouins explored the plain and advanced on the two flanks. They attacked on the left flank.
The Armenians too, and pursued the cavalry on his left wing. But it left the center weakened who ad to defend against the heavy infantry and cavalry.

Game 7, Period 2
1st Continental 19% defeats Cry Havoc 48%
Romans (Cry Havoc) attempted to defend heights beyond a pass in between two mountains but lacked the troop numbers to prevent the Sassanids (1st Continental) from pressing the flanks of the legions before turning in towards the center of the Roman line. After some maneuvering, the Romans were able to isolate and rout some Sassanid horse archers on the flanks but were themselves left with isolated units in the center who were surrounded and routed to give the Sassanids victory.
