Windows has stopped working. Windows is missing a componant.pipfromslitherine wrote:You need to be much more specific. Spartan works fine on Vista once you download the DLL which Microsoft did not include in the Vista OS (see the Tech Support sticky in this forum). You need to tell us exactly what is happening for us to help.

I downloaded the dll thing 3 times already. So what else do you need to know because, obviously, it doesn't work fine on this vista system

You need to download the DLL and unzip it into the same directory as the Spartan EXE. If that does not work you need to give us the specific error message; simply saying "Windows has stopped working" doesn't give us any information to help you.
Again, you need to copy the DLL into the install directory for the game, you should see the Spartan EXE in there along with a number of other files.

It's been released some months ago by Magitech (see my sig). From Magitech you can get a physical copy. It's also been released this week on gamesgate as a download version. The strategic map is turn-based and the battles are real-time. I think it's a great game. Check the Wargamers review on it...panzers wrote:Where did you get that Takeda III game? is that a new one and its it real time of turn based?anguille wrote:What's your problem? Maybe change from 3D to 2D...

ahhh, real time. That's what ruins it for me. Such a shame. But, thanks anywayanguille wrote:It's been released some months ago by Magitech (see my sig). From Magitech you can get a physical copy. Well, it should be. c:\Program Files\Slitherine\Spartan is the directory it installs to. What path does the desktop shortcut point to (I assume that's how you attempt to run the game)?panzers wrote:don't know how to find exe. It's not under spartan in the program files.
Perhaps you should try reinstalling the game, because the executable is supposed to be there.
where do I type c:\program files\slitherine\spartan? obviously, that is in dos, so how do I do that? I am just not good with this kind of shit. I don't even know how to do a pbem with anyone because everyone thinks I'm too stupid not to know, so I don't even ask anymore.Kissaki wrote:Well, it should be. c:\Program Files\Slitherine\Spartan is the directory it installs to. You do not type in anything in Windows. If you enter the appropriate folder (from My Computer, then the drive you installed to (typically the C drive), then Program Files (may have a different name according to the language you installed Windows under -- mine is Norwegian, so it's called "Programfiler"), then Slitherine and then Spartan.panzers wrote:where do I type c:\program files\slitherine\spartan? obviously, that is in dos, so how do I do that? Windows does not list the files with their three-letter extentions (.exe, .bat, .dat etc.), but Spartan.exe has the Spartan icon. Only two files in the folder should have this icon: one is the icon file, and the other the program/executable file. That's the one. And that's the folder you need to unzip the .dll file to.
And don't worry about being computer illiterate. We all suck at different things.
