Division B
Captainwaltersavage - Portuguese 1200-1319 AD defeats Morat - German (Imperial) 1200-1319 AD 62:40
Faced with a solid line of crossbows spears and dismounted knights supported by mounted crossbows and mounted knights, the Portuguese decided to retire to a hill and hide behind some rough ground. Realising this was unlikely to lead to any kind of victory I ventured out and engaged in a swirling cavalry battle on the right flank that managed to occupy a large part of the German forces. My foot warriors then managed to contend with the remaining Germans with a great deal of success. Sadly for the Portuguese their cavalry was decimated making for a very long and challenging battle. The Germans also proved to be exceptionally good at rallying. Luckily my light cavalry managed to return to the battle in sufficient time to break some fragmented units and to interfere with the German approaching for the final showdown. The battle finally ended just before night fell. A great game to end my High Medieval campaign. Thanks to Morat for the tremendous challenge.

Stew101 - Achaemenid Persian 480-461 BC with Greek 680-461 BC allies beat nyczar - Roman 199-106 BC with Pergamene 262-191 BC allies 51-19.
This was finally a map that really helped the Persians. Lots of reasonably sized hills, with a good spattering of rough.
The Persians were able to move from feature to feature, whilst the Romans withdrew into an increasingly smaller area.
The Romans suffered casualties on both flanks and their brave velites were eventually overwhelmed.
The battle stemmed on whether the inevitable Roman heavy infantry attack would sweep the field, or would the Persian attrition tactics win the day.
Nyczar's counter attack was indeed well timed and would I think have turned the game, but for two factors.
1. The Persian Immortals held their hill despite Sparabara collapsing all around them.
2. And the heroes of the day - a unit of ordinary bowmen. These fought it out in a wood, with a fragged unit of scutarii and then two units of legionaires. They never broke and held long enough for the Roman units to be charged in the rear by fresh hoplite units.
Well played Nyczar, you were very unlucky not to get more from this game.
Regards Stew.

DirtyMark - Macedonian 328-321 BC defeated LunarFoxx - Graeco-Bactrian 250-130 BC (1600) 61-41
Graeco-Bactrian fielded a mainly Cavalry and elephant force with some pike men. The battle divided into two halves. Macedonian cavalry on one side of the battle was overwhelmed but pike phalanx came to their aid. On the other side of the battlefield, Macedonian phalanxes met a force of Graeco-Bactrian pike men, which they defeated. Graeco-Bactrian Elephants avoided the Macedonian light infantry and crashed into the Macedonian Cavalry and things looked very bleak for the Macedonians. The Macedonian pike men held their ground and formed square where necessary. The valiant Graeco-Bactrian commander had his cavalry and elephants charged diretly into these formations, instead of looking for vulnerable flanks and were defeated.
