In light of recent events, the generals of Carthage have unanimously concluded that there is no path forward and concede the campaign to Rome. Congratulations to the Roman team and special thanks to Kronenblatt for his efforts in creating and administering the campaign.
Carthage
Ok, thanks for participating, guys!
To you all, Romans and Carthaginians alike:
- What are the main takeaways from this campaign?
- What was fun and is worth keeping?
- What can improved, rules and admin wise?
If you don't want to write here, please give me your feedback in a PM to me.
Big thanks to Kronenblatt for organizing this; it was fun as all his tourneys are! Nice playing with/against everyone else too. Hope to see you all in other future competitions.^^
Main takeaways:
The Good:
1. Battles were fun, as Roman on Carthage armies are great to use against each other. Some people thought the Carthaginians were under-powered; that I'm not sure of but can be tweaked if needed.
2. Fighting on one side (Romans for me) in a large Punic War themed campaign was also fun; trying to kick Carthage out of Sicily or take it's islands; basically the strategic side of it helped make it interesting.
3. Playing with several other people on a team. Team dynamic and the hope your fellow generals were successful in their sections/areas made it more exciting.
Could be improved:
1. Navies. It might have just been me but it seemed embarking/disembarking was bulking/time consuming and ultimately didn't do much in the campaign. Again it could have just been me and I wasn't paying attention.^^
2. Sieges. They were too long, and I know we tried fixing that but that was late game and the results weren't clear. Hopefully the new way will be better or tweaked a bit again.
Suggestions:
1. Perhaps make taking a city more "devastating" to the other team who loses it. I'm not sure how, as you don't want it TOO severe, but I think it would make it more strategic and fun, trying to knock out key cities as opposed to often just finding the nearest army and attacking it (still fun though)!
Conclusion:
Great tournament that I think has a good, solid main framework that doesn't need too much revision, unless you are a wiser man than me and have great ideas, which I welcome!^^
Anyone who can add to this or refute something I said in mistake, feel free to!
Thanks,
Aetius
