Division C
edb1815 (Aragonese) defeated GDod (Andalusian) 60-44.
A surprise ending to this Spanish duel. It was a question of the Almuvogars holding the Muslim spearmen whilst the Aragonese knights collapsed the other flank. This with bunches of Andalusian lancers and light horse running around the rear. Andalusian medium foot had attacked the rear of the Aragonese center when a knight broke a lancer and in the ensuing breakthrough hit the rear of the Andalusian infantry attack causing an immediate rout and breaking the army - all on the Andalusian turn.
Well played to my opponent and current leader of the division!

Re: First Time Control check is now completed . . .
The first Time Control Check is now completed. The first thing to say is that we have no players who have gone AWOL, or who have not responded to my enquiries, so that is good. Three players have failed the check though. I am going to allow them to continue in the tournament and review the situation at the second Time Control check in two weeks time. All three players are "regulars" and have always completed their matches in the past so I am giving them the opportunity to catch-up over the next few weeks.
Just to explain a bit more how I do the check. The basic requirement is one match completed in each division you have entered for the first check, but I am a bit flexible on this. For example, sometimes there is a situation where a player has entered three sections and they complete two matches in one section, one match in another section and are only half-way through their first match in the third section. So they have actually completed three matches across the three sections, even though they have not completed one match in each section. In these situations I give them a "pass" as they are showing me that they are getting on with things. Quite often in conversations by PM players will also tell me things like "and I have 5 other matches in progress", which tells me that there is no problem.
Please also note that some players without a result to their name in the league tables are exempt from the first Time Control check as they have entered the Themed Event. These matches take priority because there is a very tight fixture schedule in that section.
I will be writing to the three players who have failed the check. The second and final Time Control check will take place on Sunday 7th November and the requirement is that you have completed 3 matches in each section that you have entered.

Division D
Swuul (British with Vikings) beat devoncop (Khorasanian with Ghaznavid) 44-19
The british set up in a long line, as usual. Things began to go all awry on turn 2, as on my left flank the british cavalry entered blood-frenzy, and did chain-pursuit evading lights through the Khorasanian lines, and then were slaughtered there. The british mediums on left came under the attack of veteran dailami troops rushing out from the forests on my left, and on the british right the Khorasan phants manouvered to charge the british raw spearmen in their flanks. It looked like game over for the brits. Then the khorasan troops all of the sudden decided to grab a defeat from the jaws of certain victory. The veteran dailami pulled back into the woods, and the excellent Khorasan cavalry joined them in the woods. On the brtish right the 'phants made an u-turn, and left their spearmen behind to face the mass of desperate brits. One by one the khorasan spearmen were overrun, and the 'phants were catched up and slaughtered as they were overrun from all sides. In the final moments the khoarasan cavalry decided to come out from the woods again, but it was too late (especially as the veteran dailami still decided to stay in the woods).
Thank you for the game devoncop! A most peculiar match. You told during the match you were afraid your spearmen would be overrun anyway, which is why the 'phants and cavalry ran to fight another day (the cavalry sure ran away, but the 'phants were never going to make it when you put no pressure on my left who thus were free to intercept the 'phants). Anyway, still fun to play with you, as always

Dirtymark (Macedonian) defeated tigercub (Jewish with Roman allies) 61-27
A very hard fought battle with legions, phalanxes, cavalry and elephants fighting in a fast swirling pell-mell fight between hordes of Jewish light infantry and rough ground. The enemy general gallantly came down from his hill and he was clever and tenacious and his men fought valiantly but in the end the goddess of victory smiled upon the Macedonians.
