Re: Classical Antiquity: winners post your results here . . .
The correct result was 41 - 14 ... it doesn't change much, but it gives more an idea of the massacre it was... impossible battlefield on the Roman side, but great play by my opponent !sivispacem wrote: ↑Wed Oct 06, 2021 1:01 pm Division E
sivispacem - Spanish (Sertorius) 80-70 BC beat gfs26 - Roman 105-25 BC 41-26
The terrain was a nightmare for the romans, something like the thermopylae pass in the center of the battlefield !
Thx to my opponent.

Deeter (Gallic 300-101 BC) defeated gfs26 - Roman 105-25 BC 65-57.
A classic Romano-Gallic set piece. Roman elites are tough to kill, not so their brethren. A fun game and a tip of the hat to my worthy opponent.
Deeter

Division D
Kerait (Ghurid) defeats gfs26 (Sicilian) 46-16
Great tug-and-pull of a game.
The Ghurid army faced a swarm of Sicilian lights that forced them to hurtle forward, trying to fend off and catch the pesky skirmishers.
In doing so, the Ghurids almost collapsed into a deadly trap. Between two forests, reaching out into the map like grasping hands, loomed the Sicilian line, all armour, crossbow and Italian bravado. And under the eaves of the trees in the undergrowth hid eagle-eyed archers.
The Sicilians caught some of the Ghurid horse in their web, shredding some Ghulam and light spear cavalry. The Ghurids promptly decided not to attack the entrenched Italians, withdrawing away from the shadow of the forest and back out into the open.
The Sicilian commander, seeing the enemy forces attempting to retreat rather messily out of the range of his numerous missile troops, responded with a general advance. But the archers had to leave the forest where they were vulnerable to the Ghurid cavalry. And the knights unhappily stumbled into the Ghurid elephants.
Good game to gfs26! He had some unlucky rolls and the Sicilian armour-busting specialists are not best suited to fighting knightless, unarmoured Central Asians.

Kerait (Ghurid) defeats Lynx57 (German North/West) 49-22
The two armies faced each other, lined up in roughly equal length.
The German dismounted knights and crossbows made two elephant units panic in the centre, where the Germans soon got the upper hand. But the Ghurids made gains on both flanks, where the rough terrain benefitted them. In the end a single remaining elephant unit flanked two German units in a chain, resulting in a Ghurid victory. Much closer than the score suggests. Good game, Lynx!
