Yanks Spanked in Washington

Post by dave_r »

Results of the Test Match from GB1 v Team Septic

Dave Handley (Later Serbian) 18 - 2 Marc Crotteau (Carolingian Frankish)
Nik Gaukroger (WoTR) 13 - 7 Scott Jeske (Later Ottoman*)
Graham Briggs (Early Achaemenid Persian) 22- 3 Steve Payne (Early Achamenid Persian)
Dave Ruddock (Sythian) 19 - 6 Bill McCampbell (Early Carthaginian)

GB 1 72 - 18 USA

The White House itself is only moments away....

*Scott Jeske was so paranoid about using his actual competition army prior to the competition starting he used another army so as not to give anything away.

He did provide Beer and Pizza to everybody who wanted it, so all is forgiven.

Ah we begin the test matches of FOG ... I wonder if it will take almost a decade for us to lose one as it did in DBM .... and even then they had to divert me to an IWF meeting to do it!! I hope not, in the nicest possible way.

Well done team GB. We will be rooting for the team in the IWF proper starting tonight.

Really missing not being over for the comp - next year.

Go Terry, Go Terry!!!

Wow. That's pretty pathetic. Who picked the US team? I guess I'll have to start working on some 15s myself....

Sounds a lot like the Yanks in Africa in 1942. Veteran Germans vs inexperienced Americans :(

I would quess that the UK team has played a minimum of 10 times as many games as the US team. In general, I don't thnk US gamers play as many games as UK gamers, and I assume some of the UK players were involved with the development of the rules.

And to all those who oppose English tyranny we can take inspiration from William Wallace:

"Lower your flags and march straight back to England, stopping at every home you pass by to beg forgiveness for a hundred years of theft, r***, and murder. Do that and your men shall live. Do it not, and every one of you will die today."

Of course a kinder person might quote Stephen from the same movie, "The Almighty says this must be a fashionable fight. It's drawn the finest people." :!:

Well it would be more proper to say that the US team was the first available. Kind of like the planes at Pearl Harbor.

They had to let the Brits win for fear they might try and burn down DC again.

The delightful Mrs F. had her official BHGS matches poised just in case. :)

As non-playing ANZAC captain I was pleased with result! Helped immeasurably I suspect by my non-appearance on the team roster:-)
I was in the other room dealing Jim Haubers Santa's a drubbing courtesy of Rammettuphem's NKE, aided by some of Jim's own painted figures which were provided as a fantastic prize at tournament's end.
A Kiwi won that too, so go figure... :D

I presume you are referring to me sir :)

I played Glen in the main event as well - he got one more point against me than Nik did ;)

Despte Dan referring to this as a "scrape together" team, most of the top Americans were playing - I think the team could have been strengthened by Mike Hart and Ricky Jones, but it is easy to say who your best team is after the tournament!

Dan, being a DCer doesn't listen to fly-over boys... I told him to put mike on the team long before the end result...

Ricky being Ricky, he was too busy looking in the mirror to make it in time.....

Then Graham Briggs could have played Mike twice :)

It was the first "official" FoG Test Match though, so should not be disparaged. Just gives Team Septic v 2.0 something to aim at :)

As it was I played Steve twice. Unfortunately the second time he'd learned to run like a girl in pigtails from the hoplites :)
