Few Random Hero questions?

Post by scorehouse »

Aggressive Counterattack states +3 attack when defending. does this only apply to a unit being directly attacked or to its supporting units like Fighter, AA, etc. support also? Do fighters ever get attacked by the HAL? seems to me they receive most of their damage from attacking an AA? then Ferocious Defense and Unyielding. a couple of examples how best used and what does it mean by "unit's entrenchment can't be ignored"? seems to me most units are on the attack and don't rest the number of turns to accumulate entrenchment? if you can think of any others with similarities chime in. thanks

Aggressive counter also applies to supporting fire.

Fighters get attacked plenty esp on high difficulty... Beware.

Unyielding units ignore suppression. So keep fighting longer and less likely to retreat. It's not useless on aircraft and infantry.

Freocious units ignore engineer ability and ignore entrenchment hero. Good ability for AI not very great for player.

Unyielding is especially useful for Strategic Bombers, as they would ignore all AA but the biggest one, with Lethal Attack you can use them to clear small AA for your Tacticals.

I use the lighting attack hero so they don't get shot at

They do get shot at if you are attacking a AA unit. Furthermore, lightning doesn't stop them from being attacked on the AI's turn. Unyielding, on the other hand, reduces or even eliminates damage in all of those situations. As someone above already pointed out, since the smaller caliber AA guns are practically harmless to strategic bombers, it means that only the biggest of guns can hurt them and with Lethal Attack, or better yet, Lethal and Double attack you can clear out an entire AA battery, entrenched infantry, and more!

Depending on the heros i get in my playthroughs i normally use 1 Slot strat bombers (with unyielding) to soften and suppress "big" AA guns so my dive bombers can act nearly or completly unharmed by enemy AA fire.

Coreslot wise a cheap solution vs AA guns, and combined with entrenchment killer (4x) real useful in almost every mission. But of course, with good heros i simply prefer melting AA guns to dust  but yes getting these heros is an issue...^^

Did anyone of you find a good use for a distraction hero ? I normally sell those....

You will hope you have one if you want to attack escorted bombers with your own fighter.

Yes, but let's still be clear here, minimal usage. Sometimes I will put it on Rudel when he attacks a neighboring unit in an attack on a heavily defended city. Its lightning attack makes him immune, but the distraction hero allows another bomber to attack without fear. The problem with them, however, is that on the AI's turn they both are open to AA attack. I prefer, if I have it, putting a Double Move hero on Rudel ( separately, not chosen over Double Attack) so he makes his attack and then flies away to safety.

I like to use Distraction hero on 8 move recons. You can sneak around units and nullify AT, AA or artillery support. Then attack with infantry, tanks, aircraft or whatever the situation calls for. The recon would either be protected by advancing forces or be able to fall back to avoid getting wiped out. It doesn't get a lot of use, but can help keep the blitzkrieg moving. Case in point, if there's an AA and mobile AT protecting each other, place the recon next to them, take out the AT with a Stuka then attack the AA with the recon or another advancing tank. It may only get used a couple of times per scenario, but if you use recons there aren't a lot of other heroes to use on them. Liberator

add a resilient to that recon with distraction. OS15 is cheap to replace also. and don't forget the aiming assistance value of the recons. once you position one as mentioned above, follow up units accuracy increase helps immensely.

are AA units still as effective at a reduced strength as some of the other units? I can't remember the term for them, which units they are or where there's a list or another way to identify them. I think Battleships qualify? any help out there on this topic?

Only ships, Heavy Fort, and the few one-piece heavy arty (Karl, Gustav, K5, armoured train) has Single Entity to ignore the penality from losing strength.

It's only available in Fjord War scenario as Prototype equipment. Another railway artillery, but 28cm.
