Aetius39 (Drangiane) defeats Ironclad (Parthyaia) 56-6
The righteous Drangiane army managed to rout the cavalry wing on their right, and swing back and attack the center pikes. GG and thanks for playing!

Deeter (Makedonia) defeats TomoeGozen (Egypt) 60-38.
Like the hero in a Greek tragedy, the Egyptian king led his army to Makedonia where he met his inevitable fate, falling in the first melee. His army dutifully followed his example.

Correct
Followed the next turn by his most trusted lieutenant...
This was all too much for the adjacent pike who fragmented and then ran away...
I must have misread the sacrifice.....
I must remember..'stay in the desert'...'stay in the desert'
Thanks to my worthy opponent for a great game though☺

Remember Croesus and: "If Croesus goes to war he will destroy a great empire." Well, that's another tournament, but still... Applicable on all FoG2 situations.TomoeGozen wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 7:15 amCorrect

I like it! Much better than the last Spoils tournament where I was Deeter the Adequate.

carpenkm (Babylon) beats Warg1 (persis) 76 - 36
The random number generator was really playing up in this game. Some early manoeuvring and skirmishing finally ended when the pikes clashed. Meanwhile on the flanks completely random results led to the glorious Babylonian freedom fighter routing the vicious oppressive tyrants from Persis,
Thanks for the game and good banter- it could have gone either way.

Carpenkm (Media) beats Kronenblatt (Atropatene) 63 -41
Breaking news From Media News Network..... Widespread celebrations erupted spontaneously across the province when the Median glorious freedom fighters dealt a serious bloody nose to the the Atropatene aggressors. Troops were seen carrying every single surviving member of pike phalanx No. 8 (the "Pride of Media") on their shoulders from the battlefield in unbridled joy - straight to the temple of Tyche and Fortuna to give thanks.
Great match which involved a complete turn around. Early Atropatene successes were eventually turned around by some very sharp pikes from the Medes. Seriously, I've never seen a unit take so much punishment and still keep fighting. Pike Unit No. 8 was fragmented, held steady against cataphracts and then rallied back to steady - fought two units until fragmented and then even rallied back to disrupted in the last turn. they held an entire flank on their own for what seemed like 23 turns until reinforcement arrived. Well played to my very worthy and unlucky opponent - you will need to make bigger sacrifices to the gods if you want to enter Media again!

Malabar26 (Baktriane) defeats Doyley50 (Areia) 42-5
The two armies met near the Arios river. Initially, the Bactrian left wing of lancers and horse archers crossed the small waterway downstream, in an attempt to outflank the Areian army wich had set his camp near a small village, amongst the vineyards. The Bactrian horsemen were met with a smaller cavalry detachment which did not offer much resistance. While this was happening, the numerically inferior Areian phalanx advanced to face its Bactrian counterpart, supported on their left by a gigantic wing of cataphracts and horse archers. But by moving forward the phalanx exposed its flank to the Bactrian left. Soon, they were attacked from every direction. When the cataphracts, slown down by the crossing of the stream, arrived to threaten the Bactrian right flank, they were stopped in their course by a line of indian elephants. Unable to overcome this obstacle, they were the helpless spectators of the rout of the phalanx...
Thanks for the game Doyley, althought I must admit it was unforgiving.

8. batesmotel attacks TomoeGozen using army of Kilikia. Attacker satrapy Kilikia, defender satrapy Syria.
Finally the dust has settled in Syria..
TomoeGozen rides his luck (a lot!!!) to sneak the game with 2 turns left , beating batesmotel 60 - 56.
A tough result for batesmotel , I was saved from early defeat by two units rallying from routed and then rode my luck on cohesion tests the entire game after that...
Thanks for a good tough game.

- Supports of other attackers (B) or defenders (C) are now possible, and not only outright attacks of your own (A).
- So now may be the time to discuss and negotiate with other players on the course they're planning, maybe agreeing on joint actions, and so on. Or maybe not...
- Please just read up carefully on the rules (in particular the Attacks and Effects of battle outcome parts) and be aware that players may not always do what they say...
- Attack declarations are posted in the tournament thread.
- Please express attack declarations in the way the following examples show:
Outright attack (A): rbodleyscott attacks kronenblatt, using the army of Gedrosia and Indian 500 BC - 319 AD allies. Attacker satrapy Babylonia, defender satrapy Mesopotamia.
Support of attacker (B): Aetius39 supports the attack of rbodleyscott upon Mesopotamia, using the army of Armenia and Georgian 331 BC - 252 AD allies. Supporting satrapy Kappadokia.
Support of defender (C): Karvon supports the defence of kronenblatt in Mesopotamia, using the army of Aigyptos and Kyrenean Greek 321-276 BC allies. Supporting satrapy Syria.
- Date (midnight CET+1 (Pella) time) above indicates deadline, after which opportunity for you to declare attack is forfeited and the player next in line may declare his attack.
- Once you have declared an attack, please PM the player next in line, who will then be free to declare his attack, up to his deadline, so we all don't need to wait for each player's deadline.

On supporting attackers and defenders
Making supportive attack declarations (B or C) instead of an outright attack of your own (A): the why, who, when, etc., may not be totally straightforward, so would like to point back to an earlier discussion in this thread.
Furthermore, some extracts below from the rules may also be helpful:
Attacks
Battles
Effects of battle outcome
Furthermore, some extracts below from the rules may also be helpful:
Attacks
- Each round requires a player (the "attacker") to announce an attack, in the form of either:
A. attacking another neighbouring player (the "defender"),
B. supporting the attacker in an already announced attack ("original attack") by another player (with the defender of the original attack constituting the "defender" in this attack as well, and the "defender province" being the same as in the original attack), or
C. supporting the defender in an already announced attack ("original attack") of another player (with the attacker of the original attack constituting the "defender" in this particular attack, and the "defender province" being the same as in the original attack).
Battles
- Each of the attacks (whether A, B, or C) are fought out as an individual battle in Field of Glory II - Ancients, taking place in the defender satrapy between the attacker and the defender for the attack in question.
Effects of battle outcome
- The attacker or defender in an original attack that gains the other player's satrapy-at-stake will decide who among himself and the players that supported him and already control a satrapy neighbouring that satrapy-at-stake will gain that satrapy-at-stake (independent of who actually won, drew, or lost his battle over that satrapy-at-stake).
- A supporting satrapy is not "at stake" and will therefore not be gained or lost by any players, independent of battle results.
