Re: Historical Flags Mod
Alright, guys, version 0.2 is finally here!
What's new?

Screenshots (beware of sensitive symbols): https://imgur.com/a/U5ng1Qz
Installation: choose the flag you need and then copy all the files into the game's Content directory (like Steam\steamapps\common\Panzer Corps 2\PanzerCorps2\Content). Backup files from vanilla game are included into the package (the only exception is the Yugoslavia's fix because it should be in the base game by default and I see no reason to return to the bugged previous state of things).
Enjoy!
What's new?
- All three historical German flags have been remastered and retouched, the most visible visual improvements are applied to the War Flag on small (unit flag, shop flag) sizes. National Flag and Party Flag are now more different.
- New historically accurate and remastered Legion Condor flag, re-drawn in vector and then converted to the game. It has all accurate historical symbols on it, but it's also of a way better quality than the vanilla one.
- Insignias fix for Yugoslavia. Now Royal Yugoslav Army uses its cross emblems both on units and in the game UI, as well as the People's Liberation Army of Yugoslavia has its correct Partisan Star.
- Made Ethiopian requested flag (the 3D map flag, shop flag and unit flag). Unfortunately, I won't be able to make the other requested flags (Nedić Serbia, Independent State of Croatia and Chetniks) unless I'll know, which tags they should use. Unreal Engine works that way, that the file should be properly named during its cooking, and peterw said that he's going to overwrite Turkey with his Ethopian mod, so I edited the flags with Turkish tags. Tell me which tag would be used for them in the game and then I'll draw them.

Re: Historical Flags Mod
My current idea for the Ethiopian emblem and insignia is their Imperial-era Air Force roundel.

However, it was adopted in 1946, but that's currently the best option I've managed to find.

Re: Historical Flags Mod
Ethiopian emblem incorporated into game almost successfully

Still need to figure out how to make big victory/defeat emblems, they are small and blurry for some reason right now:

Could be some UE script which couldn't be modded until the official modding tool is released, I'm afraid.
The 'small' insignia icon is also done, but still needs polishing and improvement (like enlarging of the central star). However, it's something to begin with

Update: the size of the emblem is okay (I thought they would be bigger for some reason), but the blurriness is still here — the British one in comparison

Trying to figure it out

Re: Historical Flags Mod
Aha, I seem to understand. For some reason, with faction emblems the UE creates not only .uasset and .uexp files like with all other textures, but also a much larger .ubulk file, which, I suppose, is the large, high-quality texture. The .uexp then is a low-quality one. Now I need to understand how to avoid that and make normal-sized .uexp... All this UE stuff is such a mystery

Re: Historical Flags Mod
Huh, funny enough, if you do copy this strange .ubulk stuff into the right folder, the emblem is bright and crispy again in the game. Well, I guess, for a mod it's a possible solution, even if the file structure becomes a bit different in comparison to the base game...

Then, at least for now, the problem is solved, emblems are possible to mod
(Also, this issue seems to be the same with my fixed Yugoslavian emblems. Will update them in the next version).

Re: Historical Flags Mod
Decals and insignias work fine (the .ubulk issue is still here, but as I've said, I guess, for mods it's fine as long as it works)

Take a look at these Ethiopian guys

And a hotfix for Yugoslavia, now all textures should not only be historically accurate, but also hi-res
Sorry for inconvenience.

Re: Historical Flags Mod
Another thing that really bothers me is the choice of factions' small insignias used in the UI. The devs did a great job with them, they are all quite diverse and look great in common, but I still have some very serious doubts about some of them, because they could be either historically inaccurate, too similar with the others' ones or just of debatable choice. The French lily, a monarchist symbol which was mostly used by the pro-Nazi collaborationists would probably be the best illustration to it. I've created a master spreadsheet with all my current ideas and thoughts regarding these insignias (to be clear — these are the emblems in the upper right corner which identify the current turn, but their larger versions in 99% are the same and used on victory/defeat screens and your turn message plate). I would be really grateful to you if you share some of your own ideas or comments in this regard. I think, one of the main purposes of my mod would also be to create a set of historically-accurate and visually-pleasant faction insignias. Take a look if you're interested

I'll begin gradually adding new insignias starting from v.0.3.

Re: Historical Flags Mod
Fun fact: due to the base game's previous mistakes with the insignia assignment, "Siberian" units from the AO 1941 Moscow mission, which were designed to use Yugoslav Partisan insignias, are now looking like Royal Yugoslav Army
I guess, now it's not Siberia, but Serbia
Hope that the devs would fix that one day, hahah.

That what happens when the insignias were twisted from the very beginning. Just glad that there's an option to change these insignias right during the game

Excellent work on this mod as it displays realism. Is there any chance that the insignias will also be upgraded to match the flags? Thank you for all your hard work and effort on the historical realism.

Thank you! Yes, I'm beginning the work on insignias. You may check a few posts above regarding my current thought about faction emblems, but camo insignia is certainly of my interest as wellGrdAdmiral wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 1:13 pm Excellent work on this mod as it displays realism. Re: Historical Flags Mod
Another piece of work for your attention to be included into v. 0.3. For some reason, the Czechoslovak roundel, being in general correct, has the twisted colours in the game and turned upside down looking like a "pacific". Fixed that!

Ingame insignia

New historically-accurate version.
Stay tuned! More to come

Re: Historical Flags Mod
I can't get the flags to show up in game. I decompressed the file, chose my flag, and moved it into the folder "Content" in the PanzerCorps 2 steamapps folder. Can someone give a step by step install or make a 10 second youtube video about it? I am lost sorry for being a noob.
