to spend or not to spend and saved the fleet
after Crete, before the training, u r offered 2 self propelled anti-tank weapons. I don't like the half strength limitation on one and the limited reserve Emil is so vulnerable to attack it depletes too quickly, so I normally refuse the offer. my play style is full speed ahead and I don't like to delay by leaving units to protect these vulnerable type units. however, if you accept these AT Protos, is there some advantage down the road? also, saved all the big capital ships during the Battle of Britain. used 2 JU 88 with OS and lethal attack protected by 2 109's with Barr/Galland, OS 14, 1.5 fire and double attack. used my tank killer Stuka's with exterminator to finish off the damaged ships. question, did I accomplish anything by saving the fleet for future use? thanks

No. No.
SPAT should not be used offensively, especially the limited Sturer Emil.
KM surface fleet is destroyed in Brighton, there is no way you can save them.

Uh, scorehouse just mentioned that he did save the fleet, which has to mean at Brighton, because there is no other mission using it.VirgilInTheSKY wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 4:30 pm No. No.

While it is extremely hard to save all the ships, it very much possible to save at least a few of them. I think I had 2 or 3 ships survive each time, while sinking the entire Royal Navy. It doesn't mean anything though, as it has no consequence for the future.
I agree with the TDs though. Both units can be very valuable, especially with the right heroes. They don't really need to be protected so long as you don't use them as spearhead, which you should never do with a TD anyway. They are meant as protection for your other units, not something that soaks up the damage. A Sturer Emil with Camouflage is amazing. If you can give it heroes that allow it too shoot first, all the better, but you don't really need to. With camouflage and sitting behind the spearhead, it will devastate enemy tanks that dare to move against your spearhead through support fire. If you have a repair hero, even better, as that will negate all the damage you might take, seeing how you aren't supposed to use it offensively unless you really have to. I think I still have it at all the available spare parts at the end of 1942.
Dicker Max is kind of useless if you play with no overstrength, but if you can push it to 10, it will do its job well, much better than anything else that is available (outside the Sturer Emil). It still only takes 4 core slots, which is no problem if you consider its firepower.
Re: to spend or not to spend and saved the fleet
Emil with Camoflage, artillery support and self repair is nearly godmode.
After the next update is delivered i will try out an offensive Emil if i get the heroes:
First strike, Kerscher superhero and field repairs. If i dont need field repairs maybe vigilant or butcher.
But some of those heros are really rare.

I think I've missed something. so Field Repair replaces a units lost slot but doesn't deduct it from the units reserve pool. i.e., 13 Emil goes down to 11, in 2 turns its back to 13 but you still have a couple in reserve? assuming you start with 15? or is it 20? I saved 4 ships, Bismark, Scherer or Scharnhorst, and 2 more. not the carrier

Yes. Field Repair does not drain your equipment pool, so you get free parts for such limited stock equipments this way.scorehouse wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 6:33 pm I think I've missed something. so Field Repair replaces a units lost slot but doesn't deduct it from the units reserve pool. i.e., 13 Emil goes down to 11, in 2 turns its back to 13 but you still have a couple in reserve? assuming you start with 15? or is it 20? Saving KM ships has no effect, you will be told that those ships were all lost in Portsmouth, and given U-boats to revenge them.

Lethal attack is wasted here. Strat bombers do lethal vs ships anyway.scorehouse wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 3:40 pm after Crete, before the training, u r offered 2 self propelled anti-tank weapons. Another neat trick is to use a camo 88 to protect the fleet. Without camo it gets shelled. Which is kind of a win too

But you gain nothing from saving the fleet.

Re: to spend or not to spend and saved the fleet
Not that I know. I saved them by lurking in the corners of the map, never engaged any british ship, and still the officer in the briefing acted like the KM was destroyed. It seems there is no trigger at all, you're always supposed to lose the fleet.scorehouse wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 3:40 pm after Crete, before the training, u r offered 2 self propelled anti-tank weapons. love the Camo 88 idea. 88's in the sky and on the ground. does lethal attack enhance the bomber against forts, tanks, entrenched units. cities etc? or is it unnecessary

Strategic Bombers benefits the most from Lethal Attack, one very important thing for me is that with Double Attack hero you can use them to kill small-caliber AAs that harms your Tactical Bomber and Fighters. Strategics has higher SA than tacticals, so if you are using them this way, it is better to target arty, AT and infantry, than bombing forts and tanks.scorehouse wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 1:43 am love the Camo 88 idea. 88's in the sky and on the ground. does lethal attack enhance the bomber against forts, tanks, entrenched units. cities etc? or is it unnecessary

Re: to spend or not to spend and saved the fleet
what 3 hero traits do u put on Rudel. I recently put lightning attack, tank killer and double move instead of double attack. then added a double attack Hero. HAL gives me double attack but rarely double move or fast rebase/fast deployment. for some reason, he's giving me Field Repair and Camo. backfired on me though. setup a group of KV-1's to surround and capture for the 100 bonus, but before my turn, 3 of them went after Hauptmann and my Camo Emil destroyed either all 3 or 2 of the 3. ammo may have been depleted by the third

Re: to spend or not to spend and saved the fleet
Definately lightning attack. I started off with tank killer, but after reading some AARs and comments, the alternative seems to be better, so now I go with that one. The third tends to be double attack.
Now, if you have plenty of double attack heroes but no double movement ones, going with double movement should work just as fine. In the end, you just want to make sure that Rudel can kill everything in one turn and not let anything survive.

- Double attack beats double move by a milescorehouse wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 1:20 pmwhat 3 hero traits do u put on Rudel. I recently put lightning attack, tank killer and double move instead of double attack.
- Lightning attack I'd take over Aggressive counterattack, it allows him to surgical strike key units protected by AA (like, say, pesky 203mm artillery). Also, your fighters should make sure he doesn't get bounced by enemy fighters in the first place.
- I chose Ignores Entrenchment over Tank Killer because double attack already means he'll wipe most tank units and being able to seriously mess up highly-entrenched key units is really good.

Re: to spend or not to spend and saved the fleet
Lightening Attack, Ignores Entrenchment and Double Attack. As long as you are not putting him on that Il-2, you won't need that Tank Killer with a Stuka. The 3rd one depends on what hero have I got. Ignores Entrenchment hero never came to me in all those runs I have had, so I prefer that one. With IE and DA he can take out entrenched arty and AT pieces in one turn, a very appreciated combination for me that saves time to dig up those guns.
Camouflaged AT (and AA) are ambush pieces, you should not use them when you want to capture something, a visible AT should do the job better.

I didn't realize they'd be so aggressive and keep coming
Re: to spend or not to spend and saved the fleet
Double Attack, LIghtning Attack, and Ignores Entrenchment. I felt these were no-brainers from the very first time I had to choose. Not only are they the most valuable, I find them more rare and flexible than the others. I seem to get Tank Killer the most, and it's not as easily assigned to other units whereas what unit could not take advantage of a Double Attack hero? To a lesser extent, same is true with the other two. When I have them, I frequently add Double Move and Tank Killer to my Rudel anyways freeing up my stand alone DA, LA, and IE for other units.
Re: to spend or not to spend and saved the fleet
So far I've chosen Lightning Attack for all Rudel in all my cores and will continue to do so.
The first two cores I picked Tank Killer. My third and fourth cores have IE for Rudel. Ignores Entrenchment is far better. My first core had three IE heros, so I could assign one with Rudel.
I have picked Double Attack for the first three cores. Paired with a Double Move hero Rudel is brilliant. Attack with Rudel, then move him (or rebase him), then attack with another bomber.
However, my fourth core I chose Double Move. That core has three Double Attack heroes but no Double Move ones. Since I can't predict what heroes the core will get in AO42 and thereafter, I went with DM on Rudel, and paired with a DA hero...

In general consequences are very lacking even compared to Order of Battle or Panzer Corps I while i enjoy the game Slitherine and Matrix are unfortunately largely turning away from Grognard to mass public stuff.George_Parr wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 5:41 pmUh, scorehouse just mentioned that he did save the fleet, which has to mean at Brighton, because there is no other mission using it.VirgilInTheSKY wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 4:30 pm No. No.
