aircraft upgrade during Battle

I know if I start a battle with a limited supply Proto or Industry connection Unit or any other ground unit, if I'm running out of reserves, I can head back to a circle supply hex and exchange/upgrade for another unit. is this possible for aircraft? if yes, where and how do you do it? if not, its a feature that should be added.

If over a supply hex and resting at air field you can upgrade your aircraft.
Which may take a turn to set up, but yes it works.

If the airfield that aircraft based at has a supply hex on it, then yes.

3 supply circles all next to an airfield but not one directly on the airfield so no go right?

Place the aircraft on the supply hex.
On the next turn you can upgrade.

really? damn, I restarted the battle just cuz I didn't think it would work.

just a thought I have to rebase my plane to the air field. next turn I have to move it one hex so if I have to wait until the next turn to upgrade, won't HAL auto move it back to the adjacent airfield thus negating my efforts?

Yes it may take 3 turns to upgrade.
If a plane is sitting at its base, the game will not move it.
