Thanks very much for all these suggestions. I will work my way through them over the next few weeks and see what I can come up with. I expect there are at least 2 or 3 really good options for the next few seasons.
Just a quick reminder as to how you can use Rule 6 "Player etiquette and withdrawal from the league" to speed up your matches as we approach the end of the season . . .
1) "It is expected that all matches will be completed within one month of their starting date. Matches that continue for longer than one month may be adjudicated. If you are unable to play for a short period of time then please let your opponents know in advance, whenever possible."
You are not expected to wait weeks and weeks for a match to be completed. If an opponent tells you something like "I am going on holiday for 2 weeks" then that is fine, but if the match just stalls you should contact me in the first instance. I will try and get the match moving again, but if I cannot make contact then the match will be passed to adjudication once the month has expired.
2) "Please notify the tournament organisers if you are unable to contact an opponent to start a match after 7 days have elapsed."
I am dealing with a match now where the challenge is nearly a month old and the PM has not been responded to. This is not at all acceptable as far as I am concerned, so please contact me once 7 days have elapsed and I will try and contact the player for you. Players are entitled to say that they are not ready to start right now as they have x number of games in progress already, but they must acknowledge the challenge and give an indication when they expect to be able to start. It is just basic courtesy really.
3) "After the first Time Control check has passed, if your opponent has not moved at all for 7 days without explanation then you are entitled to claim the match automatically by using the multi-player in-game facility provided."
You do not have to wait for my permission if you do not want to. Just claim the match. I am not sure if the in-game "claim stalled game" facility is currently working, but if it is not just send a PM to your opponent saying you are claiming the match under the 7 day rule and copy me into the PM. If you are not comfortable with claiming the match in this way, your alternative is to send a PM to your opponent, again copying me in, asking him/her to recommence the match.
In Classical Antiquity Division E, the missing opponent is Kroche. All my games are in play and shouldn't have any problem finishing them by the deadline.
