With that said, the game is not without it's flaws but I suspect that with good feedback it will become a really great game and I would like to point out a few things that do not really do the game any favors sadly.
1.Tutorial/information messages - I had quote a bit of trouble trying notice these on my screen, mostly since they were sooooo bland that I managed to mistake them for part of the scenary, especially since they popped up all over the screen, making it even more confusing. I suggest making them pop up only in one place and perhaps adding a golden border that draws more attention.
2.Ingame sound seems too low - not sure if it's just me but I felt like the voices ingame were a bit too low by defauult, had to ramp it up a bit
3. Army management - while it does feel like a table top mechanic it really server no purpose, at least as far as I've seen. I would remove it completely or make it so removing units doesn't feel soo insignificant. I mean, I can switch out my units without much trouble, and the only indication between a unit that is fresh an a veteran of several battles is some badges that as far as I can tell do nothing? Perhaps I missed something important but if those badges are just for show I would either advice removing the double army management alltogheter or make it worthwhile in having our units survive a mission. Perhaps each badge that shows a completed mission gives a small bonus that stacks up?
4. Lack of information - I feel that there are still a few things that are unclear and the game doesn't a good job explaining. Such as the cover system, how does that work? How do I know for sure that if I move a unit to a location it has cover besides 'guessing' that the wall nearby will add cover? How do I know if that wall actually serves a purpose or if it's just for show or part of the sceneary? I would like to see those little shields above the location I am sending my unit before performing the action, I think this would give a bit more tactical depth.
5. Bonus objectives - Are you actually capable on missing out on bonus objectives because I feel like I have no choice but to complete ALL of the objectives in order for the mission to end, as in, nothing is really optional. If that's the case? I noticed this when I did the
If every objective is mandatory I'd just remove the whole 'bonus objective' alltogheter, since it just makes it feel like a cheap illusion."Staff quest where I had to get the staff and then kill all the enemis... perhaps I missed it but it felt like the aquisition of the staff was mandatory and yet I still got bonus points for completing the bonus objective."
6.Objective information - It would be nice that when you need a specific hero to reach the location to complete an objective the mission birefing also tells you WHICH hero do you need... sure it was easy to understand for the second mission with the Sanguiniri Priest but the Staff quest I wasn't sure or the Sisters of Battle quest. I feel that it's a very important piece of information that helps avoid annoying instances where you have to walk one hero from one side of the map to the other, just because you didn't realize HE was needed for the objective.
7. Exterminate all - I think this is my biggest gripe. Why bother giving objective when it all boils down to kill everything at the end? Seriously. Remove that and just make it more difficult to do the objectives. The moment I've done the objective and there's only 'clean-up duty' left I want to leave that to the AI and fade to black. Nobody wants objectives that do not matter and nobody wants to ALWAYS have to exterminate everything on the map just to advance to the next mission. It seriously is making the game longer without any good reason and making the game less enjoyable altogheter. Once the objective is done all I do is set my units in a defensive position and simply click end turn and overwatch. Anything left just dies when it approaches my wall of marines... sure I don't need to do much but it's not exactly fun or helps make the game any better either. Please, remove the exterminate all tyranides at the end objectives, it is seriously making the game more annoying than it should be.
That is all I had to offer at the moment, I still haven't finished the game but I am looking forward to it and despite my rant I still do enjoy the game, it's a decent game and one that I've been waiting for a long time and that is why I even bother to write here. I want this game to succeed because I think it can prove to be a really fun game but some changes might be in order.
I thank you for taking the time to read this and I wish you all the luck in updating the game further. It's a good game and I can't wait to see what else will you add to it! ^^
