question about "Industry Connections" trait

Post by Obersturmbannfuhrer »

I have been playing with this trait (to counter Retrograde negativ trait) since Spanish Civil War DLC and in every single DLC. But i always get either Tank, Anti-tank or Recon, never anything else, never Atrillery, never Anti-Aircraft, and never any type of aircrafts. Is this the intended way of this trait? Or is it because i also play with denied atrillery and denied aircrafts traits? So if i denie artillery/aircrafts i never get any artillery/aircrafts prototype from Industry Connections too? I always thought this trait counters the denied traits too to some degree. Thx for the answers.

I am playing with that trait (but no Denied Arty or Aircraft) and I've gotten prototypes from all classes except infantry fighter and tac bomber (fighter and tac bomber could be just luck, there's not that many of them in 1939-1941 plus I've gotten Strat bombers so I know you can get aircraft from it).

I have denied artillery but allow aircraft. I get prototypes of aircraft, but no artillery. (And of course tanks, etc.)

I am currently playing with "denied artillery" and I just got a StuG III 42. So maybe just bad luck?

When you deny yourself Art and Air, what positive traits r you after that you feel are more important? or r u just changing up/spicing up the game? thanks

Meticulous Planning, fast deployment (being the two I would be going after.) If you do do denied aircraft then you need the one that allows your AA to get kills instead of suppression.

i like playing on scarce resources, denying artillery means i can only play captured artillery and i only have air force from hidden caches and commendation points, i also like industry connections for this exact reason, i have better equipment but in limited quantity so i have to be much more careful, my entire army consists of prototypes, captured stuff and planes from commendation points

The ones that I feel affect me the least and/or simulate history the best. For my big core from SCW typically as follows:

Slow Modernization
Trench Slog
Denied Artillery and/or (depending on the DLC) Denied Aircraft

(Automatic no brainers)
Panzer General
Infantry General
Killer Team

Those are my standards. The rest of my positive traits vary from core to core and DLC to DLC, but they may include any of the following:

Force Concentration (Usually my first next go to. Love having a 4th hero on units. Very powerful and helpful but not until you have a lot of units in your core and tons of heroes. So my alternative core that I started (i.e. did not import) beginning AO41 does not have it now. Not enough bang for the buck because the number of units and heroes in that core is half the size as the one that began in Spain.

Industrial Connections (best used is AO40/41 onwards. Not as many new or better equipment appears in SCW and '39 to make it worth it IMO.)
Anti-Air Veteran (Use it mainly in early war/DLCs when your fighters are still kind of weak. Haven't chosen it since AO40.)
Master of Blitzkrieg (used to be a fav especially during Vanilla campaign, rarely if ever chosen now)
Perimeter Control (another long favorite but overtaken by FC since its appearance. Rarely chosen now as well though I still like it when possible.)
Operational Initiative (Vanilla campaing fav when the game first came out, but never chosen with AO DLCs anymore.)
Trophies only in SCW. Don't like trying to surround/capture. Prefer (i.e. more fun for me) to follow the Hulk method of play: Smash 'n Go!

The advance deployment one (I forgot exactly what it's called), looks good but it is 2 points and I haven't really tired it yet.

I will advocate for perimeter control. You can stick a unit out “on and island” and it will be in supply as long as one unit (even in a long chain) is in supply.

My go-to positive traits are Panzer General (!), Master of Bliztkrieg, Perimeter Control and Aggressive Deployment. I have become addicted to the last, can't imagine playing without it anymore... I start out SCW with a lot of positive traits and a lot of negative ones to go with them. I'll add either Auxillary Slots or Industrial Connections, but rarely both at once. I don't use PG in SCW, but everywhere else as the tank core slots get larger and larger... I like the Force Concentration positive trait for SCW to counter the Force Dispersion trait, so I can pick up an extra 1 point positive trait in SCW. Trophies of War is a good one to pick for most games.

My go-to negative trait for the AO DLCs is Slow Modernization. I have used No Overstrength and Insufficient Supply in most of my cores. I'm now gravitating towards Poor Maintenance and Bad Luck. PM, BL and IS make for a very painful AO41, with all its mud... I'll throw in Denied Artillery or Denied Airforce, depending on how I feel. I've also used Retrograde a couple of times, once with the Industrial Connections positive trait for a very bizarre core setup :D.

As I get to AO41 and AO42, I use fewer and fewer general traits. At that point my core units are well experienced and well equipped anyway.

I always use bad luck, fear of unknown{i don't use Fog of War, hate it}, Trench Slog and Arrogant. started using Denied Artillery but always load up my reserve in the 39. I love the recon, aiming assistance is great and works

How is trench slog? I haven’t used it because it seems awful. If I come up against a 10 entrenchment infantry am I out of luck without strat bombers?

Some artillery have 3x and 4x entrenchment killer properties. The 203/ 210 mm ones have 3x, and the StugIIIB and StuH42 have 4x for example. With Trench Slog they would work out to 2x and 3x of course. The heroes of choice for a Trench Slog game are Ignores Entrenchment, Entrenchment Killer 3x and Entrenchment Killer 4x. I would bring several combat engineers and flame tanks to the party, as they have the Ignores Entrenchment property.

Ok. So definitely don’t do it with denied artillery unless I hate myself, devote a large part of my corps to engineers, or have lots of entrenchment heroes

Paxus accumulate artillery in your reserve in the previous campaign. max OS then when you need the 21, 203, etc. zero/reduce slot it

At first glance, it does look like a horrible choice. However, in most DLCs your forces are pretty powerful, have a good selection of heroes by then, and can blow through most enemy positions/units even if they are at level 5 entrenchment without problem. At any rate, don't you blast or soften them up with artillery or aircraft anyway? So it in actuality ends up being not a big deal and worth 2 points. I use it every time along with SM. In SCW, your tanks are not attacking entrenched positions anyway, the Nationalist infantry are and when you select it it only affects your troops, not them.

Good to know. I especially avoided it in SCW but have thought about it from time to time on other AO.

My usual negatives are Slow Modernization, Denied Artillery, No Overstrength, and now Bad Luck. I will rotate slog in in the future. I just started a new SCW and tried the find out your heroes trick (too good to start over.) I also discovered in advanced options you can give yourself up to 10 points to spend, I assume if you want to play as a Rommel/Guderian/Manstein level genius officer.

Trench slog reduces the damage to entrenchment by one. So units without entrenchment killer will never lower it. Units that ignore entrenchment don't care, and otherwise you'll need more artillery and/or stratbombers (or units with entrenchment killer heroes) to dig out enemy units. I originally played my main campaign with it, and still managed to crack Stalingrad. Though it sure made me appreciate things like the StuG IIIb, StuH 42 and Brummbär a lot more - they're relatively cheap, tough, murder entrenchment and provide nice close support to your infantry in urban slugfests.

Stratbombers also turned out quite useful, too, both for their entrenchment busting and quite frequently for just killing enemy movement. The latter is great for interdicting key enemy units in defensive situations, and in rough terrain can be used to effectively immobilise enemies and set them up for capture. That they're also quite a bit more resilient and have longer range than the pure tac bombers can also come in handy.
