Dacia is fighting a war against Macedonia. A force of Dacian veterans, four units of Dacian heavy infantry, who are good in mountains and rough terrain, had been nearly wiped out in the earlier fighting. They had been pulled off the front line to recover.
Now they were marching back toward the front line, in the region of Macedonia, and were marching through Agrianes, a quiet sector, to get there.
Suddenly, the battle screen turned up after the turn was ended, showing no less than 26 Dardani units, including a strong force of heavy infantry, warriors and skirmishers, attacked the four Dacian Heavy Infantry. Dardania was a client state of Macedonia that had so far not intervened in the war.
The frontage in the province was 8, and the Dacians had no skirmisher support. They were certain to be outflanked, and I prepared maysoelf to losethese four units, all at the highest level of experience.
The battle began, and the Dacians met the enemy heavy infantry in the center. Each unit faced Heavy Infantry, supported by skirmishes, but the Dacians were better in hills and mountains. The Dacians won every combat, killing all four of the enemy units they faced. Some enemy units attacked their flanks, but the Dacians easily repulsed the stunned attackers. The whole Dardani army broke and fled, with the Dacians suffering no significant damage.

Re: The 300 Dacians
It was quite a surprise. But I will say it is a great deal of fun to play Dacia, which is very different from playing more civilized nations. They are lousy at commerce, but really good at mining metal, and get lots of opportunities to build productive furnaces and bloomeries. I have been able to use the decision to sell metals to overcome the commercial handicap, and I also get a lot of slaves from warfare, and can sell them as well. I have been able to use the recruit local unitsdecision to recruit a vast army of superb provincial units, such as Dacian heavy infantry, who are not clumsy and and are good in mountains, Iazygian lancers,
and Roxolani heavy cavalry. By building the Dacian wonder, the fourth level of Dacian forts, I have been able to improve these units by making their defense stronger.
I think I can break Macedonia int he next war. And, once I have done so, the armies of Dacia will march on Rome, which is weak in this game.
While I have been impatient for the publication of the next game in the series, the best antidote for this frustration is to play a new nation in Empires. This is, without a doubt, one of the greatest games of its kind.
And I am confident that your new game will be even better.

Re: The 300 Dacians
I see it as confidence in what you can do, and have done time and time again. You have made many changes to Empires in patches, and have greatly improved the game, which was great at launch. You have changed many things, both big and small, and have always made the game consistently better. I am enjoying it now more than ever!
So perhaps you can understand why I am so excited about the upcoming game.
Thank you.
Re: The 300 Dacians
I will try that after I complete my Dacian game. Thanks for the idea!
