Equipment file issue

Normally changing the equipment file is easy, but I'm having a problem today.
I've probably missed something obvious but thought I'd better ask in case I need to reinstall or there's something else going on.

Everything works fine except the equipment file in the game remains unchanged.
I've checked the updated equipment file is in the correct folder and that there are no typos in the file.
I've tried it with and without GME and still nothing.
I know the copying operation worked because other files I copied over at the same time are working.
It's not a missing image or similar because all I changed was the ammo count on two units.
I've tried restarting the campaign and the PC, but it stubbornly refuses to change the ammo.

Constructive suggestions would be appreciated.

Ordinarily I would tell you that the equip file only refreshes when you start a new scenario. But you said you even restarted the campaign, so that can't be it.

Throwing some ideas at you from out of left field: have you tried removing the equip file to see what happens? I would expect the game to crash; if it doesn't, then the game is picking up a file somewhere. Are there other changes (besides the 2 ammo changes) in the file that would distinguish it from a vanilla file? If you care to post the file here, I'm sure some of us could look it over for you.

One other question: are you trying to play a DLC? Those can have files that will over-ride files in the data folder.

I tried your suggestion, which didn't work, BUT...
while puzzling out why it didn't work, I solved the problem.
It's often the way, that being stuck stops you seeing the way out, so thanks very much for helping me look again.

The files were all in the right place but somehow I had accidentally changed the extension so the game didn't recognise them. Looking more closely helped a lot.
