Pike and Shot: next team event
I am not yet sure when to launch this and I have had some requests to delay it for a while. Having said that, for our New Zealand friends it is winter and a good time to be playing games.
So far, we have two ideas:
- Peasants' Revolt, and thans to AlexdeTrojan for this good suggestion, which will consist of peasant armies from the Extra Nations mod trying to overthrow their masters. So Swedes, Germans and Hungarians, perhaps even an ECW game as well.
- English v Scottish, conflicts through the ages from Bannockburn to Culloden and a mix of scenarios and skirmish games.
If you have any comments, suggestions or other ideas please post them.
If you are interested to take part please let me know, and if you have a preference for sides then again let me know. I think for the moment, I will resist the idea of 'mirror games' if you don't mind and instead encourage adherence and fanatical support for your team.

Re: Pike and Shot: next team event
If not for the next event, but to keep in mind for future events: there are alot of mid-late 19th century scenarios and napoleonic scenarios. On average I think there are more balanced napoleonic ones as some of the later 19th century scenarios favor one side too heavily, i have found. However, I've played gettysburg and sedan a few times and found both to be very good and interesting.

Re: Pike and Shot: next team event
I think I'll sit the next one out , need to reduce my gaming commitment for a while
Thanks for running the last one , it was most enjoyable. Hopefully once my busy period is out of the way I'll be back.
cheers,
Dave.

I'll go along with the crowd... any period or scenario will do

Re: Pike and Shot: next team event
Players so far then are:
AlexdeTrojan (pref. Scots)
Awesum4
Doyley50 (pref. English)
Gdod
Gribol
Kiwiwarlord
Snugglebunnies
Warrior230 (pref English)
snooky51
PeterthePainter
Lascar (pref Scots)
I think that we could do the English v Scottish first and investigate the peasants' revolt for later in the year.
Any preferences for sides?

Re: Pike and Shot: next team event

Looking forward to it!

Re: Pike and Shot: next team event
I am sorry if I didn't indicate in my previous post: I'm in to play in the upcoming team event.
Since, there are even teams, I can wait as an alternate if someone drops out or until another person joins us.

Re: Pike and Shot: next team event
Ah, I misunderstood your mail. Consider yourself recruited, as I can add my own name to the list to make it even.
Re: Pike and Shot: next team event
I am thinking of the following games.
Your comments and suggestions are very welcome. I played Bannockburn and Flodden and was not too impressed (and not only because I lost...) so I suggest skirmishes for the early period.
1. Late Middle Ages
English 1494-1542 v Scottish 1494-1557 (Age of Machiavelli) - a warm-up, plenty of pikes and bows
2. Border Reivers
English BR 1500-1534 v Scottish BR 1500-1534 - crazy light horse fun
3. 16th Century
English 1558 -1583 v Scottish 1560-68 - very interesting army lists, pikes+Highlanders for the Scots v strange composite blocks for the English
4. 'English' Civil War
Auldearn scenario - Montrose (a Scot fighting for Charles I) v the Covenanters - a small but intriguing action and who can resist the heroic Montrose?
5. The Jacobites
Culloden 1745 scenario... - no introduction needed.

Re: Pike and Shot: next team event
Culloden is a Scottish headbanger...perhaps Prestonpans? Although, it's but a skirmish it's a fairly even contest

Re: Pike and Shot: next team event
English 1558 is a horrible list that struggles against the Scots 1560 list, but I don't mind a challenge ;)

Re: Pike and Shot: next team event
Yes, I have played it against Kiwiwarlord and got beaten-up thoroughly. However, in the return match he is doing well, but that may just be my imcompetence.SnuggleBunnies wrote: ↑Tue Jul 13, 2021 11:09 pm English 1558 is a horrible list that struggles against the Scots 1560 list, but I don't mind a challenge![]()

Re: Pike and Shot: next team event
Against a player, I believe it's a hard one to win as the Scots Brian. Very historical though. I've won as Scottish against the AI but never against a player. Is the scenario very unbalanced ?

I am happy to reconsider if the majority feeling is against it, of course. Alternatives?GDod wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 10:27 amAgainst a player, I believe it's a hard one to win as the Scots Brian. - Falkirk Muir scenario
- Extra Nations III skirmish between Jacobites (1689) and 'Williamites in Scotland' (1689)
Of course if it is really tough, we can ask Snuggles to take on the challenge and I am sure Brian is up for it.
