I am sympathetic to Vindictus re suicidal attacks. I think destruction of the enemy should for the most part be a means to an end, not an end to itself...

Yes, but Vindictus' problem is that he is being denied the chance of points otherwise because his opponent doesn't allow the game to play out over the full 15 turns.

I have again had the same problem, in Round 2 by turn 11 my Germans had taken one supply centre and were closing in on the second, and my Russians had basically routed the Germans away from the VP area, so my opponent simply refused to carry on playing - the last turn he played was a week ago. My points score remained what it was at turn 11, denying me the 80-100 points I would have got had he played to the end. In fact I have now played 8 games of tournament play but only 2 of those 8 have been played to a conclusion!

So, again, I would appeal for some mechanism for such abandoned games to be completed, perhaps against another player. Or perhaps a tournament where players who have previously abandoned games are excluded - it is very frustrating this way if you have to rely on luck to be drawn against someone who will actually honour the spirit of the game by completing what they signed up for!

This isn't something I get too worked up over, so I guess I'm amenable to Erik's viewpoint as well as Vindictus's. Thinking about it some more, by allowing players to abandon games you aren't so much protecting the one abandoning from circumstances POSSIBLY outside their control, as punishing the opponent who doesn't abandon the game for something that's DEFINITELY outside their control. So in other words I'm leaning more towards the Vindictus / Sags camp now. Given that abandoning games has been allowed in this and previous tournaments, it only seems fair to at least try the recommended alterations in some form in the next tournament, if just as a test to see how it goes. If it's a disaster hey now we know. If on the other hand it works out great, we can keep it.

Hallo

Hi,

Things like that happen. The system will generally only start querying actions if the player does them obviously and repeatedly. You're okay.

This tourney has been a SNAFU for me, due to late and tardy opponents. I ended up abandoning the second round because pointless playing due to lack of time. But am completing this final round as a show of respect to my last opponent who has showed up on time.

Best of luck to the guys still in the hunt for top spot.

I try to do at least one turn a day, and at worst go two days without playing. Surprisingly my current opponent seems to have quit, they had every reason to expect to beat me based on past performance.

If there is another OOB tournament, i hope the organizers can fix the flaws in the competition. In particular the fact that 14 days makes it literally impossible to complete 15 rounds. My opponent and I had our turns in a prompt manner, but due to the timezone difference we were only able to complete 13 rounds. I pointed this major flaw out after round 1 though, so I am doubtfu,l and this may be my last OOB tourney.

Hopefully the PC2 world tourney operates under a better system.

Anyway, Congrats Lynxcom.

We stalemated each other for a low score draw in round 1 where my Armour/rockets blitzkrieg was blunted by your measured Infantry/TD/Arty strategy. Two blinders in round 2&3 is impressive - well done! And also well done to all the others that finished in the top 10 .

I'm really happy for the 7th place! My best performance ever, despite a terrible second round.
I would like to thank organisation team and see you next tournament 😁

The matter of players who abandon games has definitely grown too big to ignore. Looking at the scores, it's a safe guess that about half of the competitors ran into this problem. We all enjoy and appreciate these tournaments, but if measures are not taken to rectify the issue it's difficult to envisage future participation.

By way of confession I was unable to get past Turn 13 in my final round due to work hell. Judging by how things were going my excellent opponent (Zhuge_Liang) probably would have finished 5th and me 6th. :-\

Abandonment is the Sword of Damocles hanging over every game but I don't thing we can expect Slitherine to ever do anything about it as it just isn't in their interest. They want as many people as possible to play in a tournament and they know (or should know) that those who grumble about abandonment are unlikely to eschew a tournament because of it. I know I won't. :-)

It seems to me the only way to sharply reduce (but not eliminate) this risk is to run "invitational" tournaments where those invited have met some set of criteria that suggests minimal likelihood of abandoning games. I would offer up anyone who has finished in the top 10 of a tournament is probably a pretty low risk, certainly anyone who has finished in the top 5. T

he real challenge would be running it as I doubt Slitherine would want to do anything that didn't maximize the number of people using its product. So it would have to be run privately which requires someone deciding to commit what could be a substantial chunk of time to organizing and running the tournament.
