He did indeed and some sort of fancy E-voucher from Osprey will be winging it's way to him ASAP.

Terry came second, Bob Medcraft fot the third place trophy because Phil was on a fag break and the both had pretty much the same score.

All Terry has to do is shave his beard off and you start mixing him up with me James ... very worrying!!

Great comp - a lot of fun indeed. The Gauls were a hoot to play. Easy on the brain after about 30 mins in each game.

Thanks to Dave, Dino and Mike for 3 great games.

The highlight was Mike rolling a CT for a rout and just passing, but we had forgotten to trry to kill generals. I killed his so there were two reason to test so it had just failed. I said he could keep the scroe or roll it again if he wanted too - he chose the latter and rolled 1-1 and fragmented his Elephnats!! Poor John had the worst dice rolls I have seen yet on a tabletop. 3 Bgs of Elephants and 2 of Cataphracts vanished leaving almost no trace that they existed - the MF Bowmen sitting in rear support locations were impressed ....

If only there had been another one on Sunday! (Mind you get an FOW starter pack as a trade swap so who knows)

Well there will be another comp in the same format at game 09 in Manchester in October. There will be two linked one day tournaments each with three games. There will be prizes each day and overall prizes.

Thanks Hammy and everyone else for a good day's gaming ... three really good games each of which taught me something new, win or lose!

On another theme, the South Somerset group I belong to plan to put on a 2-day FoG tournament at next year's South West Model Engineering Show and the space we've been allocated would accommodate up to 24 players with ease. I think the format to go for will be this one, but in both 15mm and 25mm with the 25mm on a standard 6 x 4 table, 2 games on each day with plenty of time for lunch and looking around the show. What do folks think? Any of the regular umpire-type guys fancy a tournament in the West Country? The date is fixed but I will edit this post later and add it.

I would go for 3 games on day one in this format. 650 points and 7 and 1/2 hours play is easy in a day. 800pts plays 7 hrs in a day. And because a lot of the games finish you are unlikely to play a full 7 and 1/2 hours.

Depending upon date I would be interested.

How far down in the South West - certainly might be tempted. Sounds like a job for my 25mm Vikings! I would be happy to umpire in that case.

At the club we are playing 25mm starter army games at times.

Could be a plan...

I would stick with 3' deep for 25mm if you are aiming for 2 1/2 hour games. The alternative is switching to a 40mm MU. I don't think that you would get as good a ballance between the different army types with 6 by 4 tables and only 2 1/2 hours per game in 25mm.

FWIW I having looked at the results now in the first round 10 games out of 14 resulted in army break, in round two 8 games were finished and in round three 9 games ended decisively. IMO that is a good proportion of completed agmes

The date for this would be the 17th/18th April 2010 ...see earlier post ... the venue is the Bath and West Showground near Shepton Mallet and the comp would be part of the South West Model Engineering Show. Following advice, I think we could go for a 15mm comp based on the 650pt format and a 25mm comp too, based on "starter armies" sounds like fun ...more people down this way seem to play 25mm games ..with around 12 to 16 in each comp?

The calendar for events through the year seems quite tight but we have no latitude over this one ... how do you go about getting something scheduled in the wider calendar? Does the BHGS coordinate this?

I have also signed up for Manchester in October and paid £10 but other comments make me think I have to pay entry to the event too. I must have missed that as an option.

FWIW I considered this for a comp and dropped it as quite a lot of people have 15mm but not 25mm. Some people also have a straong preference for one or the other. Although personally I would like it a lot.

Berkeley Vale club(Glos) Shieldwall 2009 28mm Doubles FOG Invitational was held the weekend after SW Model Eng. show this year; I suspect we'd pick the same next year but it's not certain yet. Our catchment areas for invitees were Gloucester, Birmingham and Weston-S-M so there is a potential clash in as much for some 2 consecutive weekends may be an issue. Ours was a doubles event with 12 teams, so 24 people. Unless the DBM crowd who we shared the event with branch off (or we do), then the numbers do not make the clash significant.

I have sent the results to be psoted on the Hall of Honour. I am not 100% sure exactly when they will get there. Hopefully soon.
