The Medes were initially deployed around a small village and its agricultural land, their force composition emphasising cavalry and melee infantry. They faced rough hills with scattered vegetation on their left, while on the right the desertic plain led into a bottleneck overlooked by a small but towering hill.
They knew that just waiting wasn't a possibility, for the numerous archers fielded by the Achaemenid rebel would spread death in their ranks. So they attacked resolutely, establishing contact on the hills and delaying the enemy with a force of light and medium cavalry to the right. Their attack, after suffering significant firing casualties, broke through the usurper's center, finally breaking the enemy's morale.
